Rapper Kid Cudi has pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and will serve two days of community service, authorities said Monday.
Charges against the 26-year-old hip-hop artist, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, will be dismissed if he completes the court-mandated work and stays out of trouble for six months, officials said.
“He’s happy to be able to focus on his career,” said his lawyer Stacey Richman.
The “Day ‘n’ Nite” rapper was busted in June after throwing a drunken tantrum inside a woman’s Chelsea apartment, police said. Officers then found a glassine envelope containing coke.
The Cleveland native waived his appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court when he entered his guilty plea Friday.
MTV describes Cudi as a Kanye West protégé and reports he long boasted of his past use of marijuana. He only recently came clean on his cocaine battle.
“Doing bumps [of coke], I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down,” he told Complex magazine. He said he realized that he was risking his livelihood – and his life.
