Just two days before her engagement with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was called off, Kristin Cavallari was glowing with excitement as she posed in a number of wedding dresses.

Unaware of how her life would soon turn upside down, the former “Hills” star was the picture of a blushing bride in a new photo shoot for Life & Style. The 24-year-old gushed about her plans for a traditional wedding and her vision of walking down the aisle in a strapless gown.

“I want a romantic, mystical wedding, with lots of flowers,” she told the magazine during the shoot at L.A.’s Mondrian Hotel on July 21.

Though her relationship seemed to be on the right track at the time, an insider close to Cavallari reveals the real problems began the next day.

When Cutler, 28, asked the blond beauty to fly back to Chicago with him the following morning, she said she wasn’t able to because she had work commitments on a new TV project.

Cutler reportedly became upset and “told her that she needed to commit to him, and to move to Chicago,” the insider added.

When it became clear that Cavallari had no intention of giving up her career in entertainment, Cutler broke up with her — and returned to Chicago alone on July 23.

“Kristin really loved Jay,” said the source. “She is devastated.”

Cavallari and Cutler, who have been together since last August, celebrated their impending nuptials with an engagement party last week. They were set to wed next spring.

Cutler is said to have popped the question to the 24-year-old blonde beauty during a vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over Easter weekend.

A source tells People.com, “He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him.”

Cavallari gushed about her feelings for Cutler at her 24th birthday in Las Vegas in January, insisting, “I’m in love and it’s been great.”

We wonder what Jason Statham’s new girlfriend will think about this.

The British hunk, who’s dating 23-year-old lingerie model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, was spotted leaving Night Vision’s Oasis bash after the Coachella Festival at 4 a.m. on Saturday – with his rumored ex-flame, Kristin Cavallari.

The two were apparently in search of some action: Palm Springs spies say Statham and the reality TV starlet (who insisted at the fete they’re “just friends”) took an abandoned golf cart for a joyride shortly thereafter.

“They were joking about how they wanted to take the cart off-roading,” says a partygoer who attended the bash.

It was all fun and games until they got caught: Our snitch says the twosome was later spotted on “a main road getting stopped by Palm Springs police.”

“The officers ordered them to go back and return the cart and proceed immediately to their hotel rooms,” to which the guilty stars sheepishly complied.

We’ll assume they retired to separate digs: Statham was openly affectionate with his model-gal pal Huntington-Whiteley during MGMT’s performance that very day, although our spy insists she was nowhere to be seen that night.

Reps for Statham and Cavallari did not return calls for comment by deadline.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan, never to be upstaged in the drama department, was sure to cause some problems that night as well.

LiLo stumbled into the same party around 3 a.m with a girlfriend in tow and was seen getting into a tiff with a photog.

“She was pushing her way through the crowd to make a lap around the party, and when she was approached by a photographer, she hit his camera and shoved him away before storming off,” says our insider.

“As usual, she was out of control.”
