For instance, when Larry was asked, if had the chance to interview his own wife, he jokes that the first question he’d ask is, “What on earth do you see in me?” Shawn, on the other hand, would decline to interview her husband. “After fourteen years, I don’t think there’s anything I’d want to know that I don’t already know!” The interview, and a photo shoot featuring the couple, can be found in Fall 2011 issue of GenLux Magazine, on newsstands now.

Larry King’s business portfolio is expanding from bagels to breath mints.

The former CNN host, who announced last month he was joining with a New York bagel maker to open a Beverly Hills store, now is hawking a breath freshener.

In a release Thursday, King said he and his wife, Shawn, “love” the product so much that they have become partners in it. The goal, King said, is to “make sure people share our enthusiasm” for the mint-coated capsule, BreathGemz.

King and his wife will promote the product in TV and radio spots and, as the company put it, demonstrate that people in all “strata of life” face breath issues.

Larry King pulls down the curtain on his CNN talk show, “Larry King Live,” after 25 years Thursday, cable television’s once dominant voice now faded in a sea of sharp talkers.

King, 77, said this summer he would “hang up his nightly suspenders,” ushered to the door by a struggling network. British talk-show host and “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan takes over the 9 p.m. Eastern time slot in January.

Ryan Seacrest was booked as the ringmaster for King’s finale. King has conducted some 50,000 interviews in a broadcasting career where he worked for decades in radio before joining CNN in 1985. He’s recorded more than 6,000 shows for CNN.

Before Fox News Channel and MSNBC even existed, King was cable news’ top-rated program. Politicians, entertainers, leaders of industry and the faces of news stories hot in the moment all sat across the table from King. Some critics said he often seemed ill-prepared and tossed softballs, while King described his style as “minimalist,” with the goal of getting his guests to talk.

Rival MSNBC saluted King by buying an ad in USA Today on Thursday, calling King “one of a kind.” “Larry, thank you for everything you’ve done to advance cable news,” the ad read.

Others were less nostalgic: The Los Angeles Times website posted videos of King’s most embarrassing moments, including when he asked an incredulous Jerry Seinfeld whether NBC had canceled his top-rated comedy.

It’s been a muted exit for King, with CNN touting Morgan’s upcoming show in ads more than King’s. Even as the end neared, King finished fourth in his time slot for Tuesday’s interview with the Judds, behind Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and CNN sister network HLN’s Joy Behar. King interviewed Barbra Streisand on Wednesday night.

The King is going out in style.

For his final show on Thursday, Larry King will be saluted by top news anchors Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Barbara Walters. “In reflections on his career, broadcast kings will discuss their appearances on his show, paying homage and respect to Larry,” our source said.

King said months back that he hoped Mario Cuomo, his first guest in 1985, would be his final one. But Eliot Spitzer, CNN’s “Parker Spitzer” co-host, rubbed Cuomo the wrong way by attacking his son, Gov.-elect Andrew — making him so angry at CNN he wouldn’t even return King’s calls, according to a recent interview King gave.

“Nothing has been finalized,” a CNN rep said of the finale. “But it will be a group of close friends and former guests.” King, 77, leaves miffed that his contract was extended only a year. His successor, Piers Morgan, takes over next month. Life after CNN could be full of laughs for Larry, who said he plans to go into stand-up comedy.

At the end of an interview with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Wednesday, he sounded a bit like Jay Leno after Leno learned that he would no longer be able to host the Tonight show after 2009. With the interview nearly over, Putin himself asked, “Can I ask you one question?” King replied, “Sure.”

At which point the Russian leader asked, “I don’t know why? But the King leaves the scene at the U.S. stage?” King then interjected, almost ruefully, “I sometimes don’t know why myself.” Putin then continued “At the U.S. stage. In the U.S. mass media there are many talented and interesting people, but still there is just one King there. I don’t ask, ‘Why he is leaving?’ But still what do you think — when shall we have a right to cry out, ‘Long live the King?’ When will there be another man who is as popular in the whole world as you happen to be?” King “Thank you, thank you. I have no answer.”

Stern called King a “loser” and “the luckiest man in show business” at a Hamptons party over the weekend – and a “f?ing ass?” on his Sirius radio show Monday – after learning that the CNN talk-show host had trashed him in an interview published last week in Steppin’ Out magazine.

King invited the verbal beatdown when Steppin’ Out columnist Chaunce Hayden asked the suspendered wonder if Stern would make a good replacement for him when he steps down from his talk show.

“No, I wouldn’t want to be compared to Howard Stern,” King said, adding: “He’s not tasteful at all.” King continued: “You go to the least common denominator and that’s Howard Stern.”

He also said the shock jock “would like you to print that I called him a smock” – presumably a euphemism for the Yiddish word “schmuck.”

King ended his diatribe with: “I regard Howard Stern as worthless.”

Stern had been on vacation and was unaware of King’s comments when Gatecrasher brought him up to speed at Savanna’s in Southampton, where his wife, Beth, was being feted as Hamptons magazine’s new cover girl.

“It’s alleged he was banging his wife’s sister and he’s saying that I’m tasteless?” Stern said incredulously. “He’s a frog … an imp and he’s the luckiest man in show business.”

As for King’s “smock” remark, Stern said: “Is that something you wear when you paint?” The self-described King of All Media then summarized the career of the soon-to-be King of no media.

“Larry King did overnight radio. He got no ratings. He moved to CNN,” Stern said, “where he had no competition. As soon as MSNBC and Fox News gave him a little bit of competition, the cards folded.”

Stern said he has no plans to take over King’s show (or join the cast of “American Idol” for that matter), but were the job his, he told us, “I would do everything that Larry doesn’t do because Larry’s a loser and he lost his entire audience.

“Let’s be honest, he didn’t retire willingly. The man had one foot in the grave. It’s obvious, he is no longer relevant.”

King declined to add to the snipefest.

Shawn King’s May 28 overdose may have been intentional, according to a police report obtained today by E! News.

The Provo Police Department crime report deemed the overmedication by Larry King’s wife an “attempted suicide.”

Police found multiple empty pill bottles on her bed, in her purse and in her bathroom, according to the report. The containers had held Compro, Prometrium, Clonaxepam, Ambien, Klonopin, Subutex, Cymbalta and Lyrica.

Some of the bottles had a “prescription of 30, others of 60, all of which were empty and which had been filled within 10 days,” read the report.

Police also found what they believed to be a suicide note left by Shawn.

“At this time, it is unknown whose writing this letter was in, however wording on the letter led me to believe that [King] had intentionally taken the quantity of pills,” read the report.

The report also states that the note indicated that she “was leaving, or that she might hurt herself” and that she wanted to be buried in Utah.

Previously, Shawn’s father, Karl Engemann, told authorities that she had been prescribed medication for anxiety and depression and may have lost track of her dosages, leading to an accidental overdose.

Shawn’s rep has not commented on the latest police report but said yesterday she was currently recovering from the ordeal.

No further action has been taken by police.

Larry King and his wife, Shawn Southwick, were aware of each other’s affairs, according to Larry’s former wife Julia Alexander King.

“Larry told me they both knew that each of them had others in their lives,” Julia, his Spouse No. 6 from 1989 to ’92, said.

“I never asked him and he never told me who his ‘other’ was, but he knew Shawn was having an affair with the baseball coach. She practically flaunted it.” While Larry was allegedly cheating with Shawn’s younger sister, Shannon Engemann, Shawn was said to be trysting with their sons’ baseball coach, Hector Penate.

“Larry doesn’t have a mean bone in his body,” said Julia, who keeps in touch with her ex. “He is a wonderful man in every area of his life except marriage. He just doesn’t have a moral compass when it comes to women.”
