King has told friends he’ll be in the audience to cheer on wife Shawn Southwick when she performs with Willie Nelson at Radio City Music Hall on July 28.

While King and singer Southwick filed for divorce two weeks ago, they seemed incredibly affectionate at their son, Chance Armstrong King’s, Little League game last weekend, kissing and hugging in front of onlookers.

King’s lawyer, Dennis Wasser, said recently, “There’s a 50-50 chance this divorce is not happening. His focus is on the best interest of his children,” adding that the pair have sought counseling and decided to postpone their divorce proceedings.

A source added, “It is strange, but it is almost as if the divorce filing has cleared the air. Things are so much better between them.”

A spokesman for King did not comment.

A former Little League coach to the sons of Larry King and estranged wife Shawn Southwick claims he had an affair with Southwick — but says King didn’t care because he was carrying on with Southwick’s sister, Shannon Engemann.

“I still think to this day that Larry is in love with Shawn’s sister,” Hector Penate, 31, told In Touch magazine out today.

Penate says he started sleeping with 50-year-old Southwick 2½ weeks after they met in 2007, when Penate was the baseball coach for the couple’s sons, Chance, 11, and Cannon, 9.

“We had sex in Larry’s bed — a lot,” Penate said. “I had sex with Shawn while Larry was on TV. Our sex life was real good.”

Penate also said Southwick wanted to have a baby with him: “She was trying to fertilize her eggs to do that.”

Southwick allegedly lavished Penate with gifts, including a BMW 7 Series, and paid his rent. What’s more, says Penate, Southwick had King co-sign the lease for Penate’s Studio City, Calif., apartment. “She controlled him,” Penate tells the magazine. “He just sat there and signed it.”

Penate also claims King didn’t mind Penate’s antics since he was allegedly cheating on Southwick with her sister, Engemann, 45. King hinted to Penate about his attraction to Engemann. “He told me one time, ‘Have you ever seen Shannon?’ After I said that I had never met her, he said, ‘Oh, oh — she’s really gorgeous!’ ”

Southwick has previously denied having affair with Penate, and Engemann has denied to The Post that she had an affair with King, calling the accusation “ludicrous.”

Last week, King and Southwick were heading for divorce after nearly 13 years of marriage, but it’s now on hold. “It was decided that there will be no divorce activity for two weeks as several issues need to be discussed and resolved,” King’s lawyer, Dennis Wasser, said in a statement Monday.

A rep for King had no comment on the In Touch story.

Larry King and his seventh wife have called a two-week truce in their dueling divorce cases.

The CNN star and singer Shawn Southwick sat down with a counselor Monday, and it now appears there’s a “50-50 chance” the divorce is not happening, King’s heavy-hitting lawyer Dennis Wasser told the Daily News.

“Larry and Shawn met with a counselor today. It was decided that there will be no divorce activity for two weeks as several issues need to be discussed and resolved,” Wasser said.

In an earlier interview with People.com, Wasser added that King’s “focus is on the best interest of his children. It’s not clear to me which way he’s going to turn on this issue.”

The couple has two sons, Chance, 11, and Cannon, 9.

King, 76, and Southwick, 50, filed separate divorce lawsuits minutes apart Wednesday after an alleged fight over Southwick’s suspicion King was cheating with her 46-year-old sister Shannon Engemann, TMZ reported.

But the sparring spouses wrapped their arms around each other at their son’s baseball game Sunday after sharing a similar warm embrace at a Little League game Thursday.

Asked Sunday if he and Southwick were reconciling, King said “you never know,” TMZ reported.

King admitted in a 1997 TV Guide interview that the couple didn’t sign a prenup.

In an interview with the Daily News last week, Engemann denied an affair with King.

“I did not have and am not having an affair with Larry. He’s been nothing but sweet to me and my entire family,” she said. “I’ve been blamed for this and it’s just not fair. I love my sister, but I’m not the problem here.”

She said it’s true King bought her a car but added that he bought cars for her mom and dad too. She denied a report that King paid for her to live in a luxury Beverly Hills hotel for more than a year.

In light of Larry King’s latest divorce, CNN staffers are cackling that the long-lived anchor is even less likely to leave the network.

“He can’t quit because he owes alimony to so many different wives,” one insider said.

King has been married eight times, twice to one woman.

His latest, Shawn Southwick, mother of two, will go for half of King’s fortune since there is no pre-nup. Shawn, 50, charges that King, 76, slept with her sister Shannon, 46.

King, who’s worth $144 million according to a report, is now in the middle of a four-year, $56 million contract. His rep had no comment.

Larry King has filed for divorce from his seventh wife, court filings show. The 76-year-old host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” filed Wednesday to end the couple’s nearly 13-year marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” He married Shawn Southwick-King in a hospital room in 1997 three days before surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel.

The couple have two sons, ages 11 and 9. King is seeking joint custody of the boys. He is also asking a court not to award Southwick-King, 50, any spousal support.

“His major concern is the welfare of his children,” said Howard Rubenstein, a spokesman for King.

He said Southwick-King filed for divorce moments after King’s filing. Her filing was not immediately available.

Rubenstein said the talk-show host would not comment further on the divorce.

The filing was first reported by celebrity Web site TMZ.com.

King’s nightly news and interview show has been a CNN mainstay for nearly 25 years.

He and Southwick-King started house-hunting in California shortly after their marriage and lived in Beverly Hills. He is a Los Angeles Dodgers season ticket-holder and announced the start of the team’s home opener to fans Tuesday.

King has three children from previous relationships.

Larry King’s contract with CNN is set to expire in 18 months — and the cable network’s chiefs are busy lining up his successor in case he retires.

King, 75, has been interviewing celebrities since 1985. Sources say CNN’s first choice to succeed him would be Ryan Seacrest — but his massive deal with “American Idol” makes him too expensive. Other contenders are CBS anchor Katie Couric, CNN “video wall guy” John King and Joy Behar, who is launching her own interview show on CNN’s Headline News.

A source predicted, “Larry will step down in 18 months. Ryan is the popular choice to take over, but his deal with Fox makes him unreachable. John King is popular but is more at home on politics.” The CNN suits will be watching Behar to see how she does on Headline News. Our source also said, “Diane Sawyer was looked at as a candidate for Larry’s show, but is out of the running now that she has ABC’s evening news.”

Couric, whose CBS deal also expires in 2011, launched her own Web talk show, “@ Couric,” on CBS online on Sept. 22 with an interview of controversial Fox News host Glenn Beck. And Couric was vague when recently asked about her future with CBS, telling the New York Times, “I really don’t know, is the honest answer.” Her spokesman had no comment.

King told Cindy Adams in May: “I’m signed through 2011 . . . then we’ll see. I should retire? Retire to what? If I didn’t work, I don’t know what I’d do. I’ll probably fall over right on the set one night.”

King’s spokesman, Howard Rubenstein, said, “Larry has the full intention of continuing in the job he loves, and he’s very confident about the future.” A CNN rep said: “Larry is at the top of his game. He gets the best newsmakers of anyone on television, and his ratings lead over MSNBC’s [Rachel] Maddow has never been wider.”

Veteran broadcaster Larry King may still rule the box, but off-screen the chat show host is looking increasingly decrepit.

The 75-year-old looked sunken and ill as he went for dinner last night, with an eye patch covering his left eye surgery cataract surgery.

By contrast his glowing wife Shawn Southwick looked a picture of health as she pulled a slightly bemused King in for a kiss.

But, despite his eye patch, King was in good spirits.

When the paparazzi appeared he joked with his 50-year-old wife that he was auditioning for the new Pirates Of the Caribbean movie, making her roar with laughter.

The pair had dined at the Boa Steakhouse in West Hollywood, California.

King has been married eight times to seven women and is a father-of-five.

The presenter of Larry King Live, he has interviewed more than 40,000 celebrities, politicians and stars over the years.

This week he spoke to Jermaine Jackson, who announced the Vienna Michael Jackson tribute concert.

And last week he made headlines with an in-depth interview with Griffin O’Neal about his childhood with estranged father Ryan O’Neal.

Now that Larry King’s wife, Shawn, has checked into rehab, friends are hoping she’ll start eating again.

“She looked like a walking skeleton at the ‘Indiana Jones’ screening at Paramount,” said one observer. “She’s emaciated.”
Crueler sources likened her to a “lollipop” with a “stick body.”

Last week, Shawn Southwick-King sought medical assistance for an addiction to painkillers. King’s spokesman denied reports she suffers from depression or anxiety. But a confidante told us: “She’s really unhappy. Larry is very controlling. He barks at her in public. She always keeps a smile plastered on her face — but she is really unhappy.”

The couple became tabloid fodder in February 2007 after a very public screaming fight at Nate’n Al’s in Beverly Hills, during which Shawn ran out and down the street, with King yelling as he ran after her.

King’s spokesman, Howard Rubenstein, told us: “He only has good feelings about her. He’s deeply concerned about her well-being. He has enormous affection for her. He denies berating her.

“She is not anorexic. Nor has she been diagnosed as depressed. She has taken medications because of her migraine headaches that she’s had since she was a young girl. She developed a dependency on painkillers as a result of being prescribed medication for the migraines.”

The 5-foot-10 beauty’s career as a singer and TV host was curtailed after the birth of the couple’s boys, Chase and Cannon. In addition, being married to a man of King’s reknown can be a full-time job.

The CNN talk host, who is 74, has been married seven times to six women. On the couple’s 10th anniversary last September, Southwick-King, 48, boasted that she “is the only [wife] to have lasted into the two digits.”
