Scott, who debuted bottomless chaps, denim fringe and Day-Glo colors on the runway this year, told us he was shocked to see the dreadlocked rapper, who was convicted for weapons possession, wearing his teddy bear shoes after being released from prison. “He’s been supportive,” Scott said at the after-party the other night at Catch. “I’m like, wow, Lil Wayne just got out of jail and he’s wearing my teddy bear shoes.”

Wonder if those leopard print skinny jeans from the last awards show are from Scott’s collection.

Rapper Lil Wayne easily topped the charts this week with his latest album. Now the self-proclaimed “Best Rapper Alive” has the most nominations for the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

His 18 nominations include MVP of the Year, Best Live Performer and Hustler of the Year.

Lil Wayne’s album “Tha Carter IV” debuted Aug. 29 at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 charts, selling 964,000 for the second-best first-week sales of the year behind Lady Gaga.

The sixth annual awards ceremony will be taped at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center and broadcast Oct. 11. Actor and comedian Mike Epps will host.

Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa each had nine nominations, while Miami-based rapper Rick Ross followed up with eight.

It wasn’t quite “A Milli” but it was awful close: Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” sold 964,000 in its debut week for the second-best first-week sales of the year.

The figures were released by Nielsen SoundScan on Tuesday.

Only Lady Gaga sold more this year. Her “Born This Way” hit No. 1 with 1.1 million sold thanks in part to a one-day offer from Amazon.com to buy the album for 99 cents.

Lil Wayne just barely missed his own sales record. “Tha Carter III” sold just over 1 million when it was released in 2008.

Lil Wayne made “Tha Carter IV” available for digital download immediately after an appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards and released a physical CD two days later.

Rapper Lil Wayne released his newest album, “Tha Carter IV,” just after midnight on Monday to huge media hype following MTV’s Video Music Awards, but early reactions show the record falling short of high expectations from fans and critics.

After several delays, “Tha Carter IV,” hit digital music retailers at midnight, almost immediately following Lil Wayne’s rowdy, rocked-out performance at VMAs.

The MTV honors show, where trophies are handed out in categories for best video among others, annually draws top stars in music and is a key promotional stop for singers trying to boost sales. Sunday’s show drew a record 12.4 million viewers to the network, up from 11.4 million last year.

Fans watched Beyonce reveal she was pregnant with her first child, Lady Gaga dressed in male drag, Jay-Z and Kanye West perform a song from their new record “Watch the Throne,” and the late singer Amy Winehouse remembered in a moving tribute.

Wayne closed out the show with his top 10 hit “How to Love,” which with Weezy’s crooning vocal, sounds as much R&B as hip-hop, and he performed “John,” remixed over Black Sabbath’s rock tune “Iron Man.”

The crowd went crazy, and the show likely was a key factor in helping lift the album’s 19-track deluxe edition, featuring an exclusive bonus track, to a fast start at No. 1 on iTunes.

Wayne’s label mate and protege Nicki Minaj tweeted her support with a simple, “Buy the Carter IV.”

Veteran rapper Busta Rhymes, who is featured on the album, was in a more celebratory mood tweeting that Wayne had “smashed the Vma’s KRAZZZZYYYYYY!!!” Adding, “By the way CARTER 4

AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE RIGHT NOW!!!”

Critics, however, were not so enthusiastic.

HARD TO TOP ‘CARTER III’

“Tha Carter IV” is the ninth studio album from the New Orleans rapper born Dwayne Carter, but the fourth in his career-defining Carter series.

Wayne, aka Weezy, released two albums last year, “I Am Not a Human Being” and his rock experiment, “Rebirth.” Neither album came close to the first-week sales of 1 million copies for 2008′s “Tha Carter III” whether due to a break from formula or to Wayne’s being unavailable to promote the records while serving an 8-month stint for a weapons charge.

Billboard.com wrote that Wayne’s most recent effort may have had unrealistically high expectations, saying in its review that “Tha Carter IV” “is not a bad album,” but adding that it may be “may be more easily digested and supported by those largely unfamiliar with Weezy’s antics and unaware of his previous highs (pun intended).”

Rollingstone.com gave the album a respectable 3-1/2 out of 5 stars but admitted, “Weezy doesn’t have the same speed-demon intensity he had five years ago.”

In its review, HiphopDX.com noted that more attention was being paid to a new lyrical jab Lil Wayne took at rap impresario and music mogul Jay-Z, who was a featured guest on “Tha Carter III,” than on the album’s music.

“The fact that most of us have spent a week debating what the fallout will be from Wayne’s Jay-Z diss on “It’s Good,” instead of the album’s wins, was probably a bad omen,” HiphopDX.com wrote.

And a comical trending topic emerged on Twitter Monday with the hash tag, #ThingsBetterThanTheCarterIV. The answers offered ranged from a colonoscopy to “Watch the Throne.”

Rapper Lil Wayne has been slapped with a $15 million lawsuit by a Georgia company that claims he stole the song “BedRock,” according to a lawsuit filed in New York.

Georgia-based production company Done Deal Enterprises accuses the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, of copyright infringement for the song that Done Deal claims it created in 2009.

The lawsuit, filed in District Court for the Southern District of New York on July 29, also names Universal Music Group, Cash Money Records and Young Money Entertainment as defendants.

“BedRock” also features singers Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lloyd, and it reached No. 2 on Billboard’s charts in 2010.

Lil Wayne, who was released from jail in November last year after serving time on a gun possession charge, has been ordered to appear in court on October12.

In the April issue of Interview Magazine, the bad boy rapper and party-girl hotel heiress bonded over their love for music, Miami clubs, and freedom (both served time behind bars in recent years).

Hilton took a break from filming her upcoming reality show in L.A. to interview Wayne in Miami, via phone. What broke the ice for the two fast-living mega-stars? Chatting about jail, of course.

“For me it was okay because it just meant that I was alone with my thoughts,” said Wayne of his one-month stint in solitary confinement, after being caught with an iPod at Rikers Island last year.

The 28-year-old was serving an eight-month sentence after being convicted of criminal possession of a weapon.

“There were times when it was pretty tough to be by yourself, and to have no television, no sort of nothing…I was okay. I did fine,” said Wayne, who released an album in jail.
Hilton, who served 23 days in prison in 2007 after violating her probation for repeatedly driving on a suspended license and ignoring court orders, empathized.

“I know how you feel,” said the 30-year-old socialite. “It’s the best feeling in the world when you come out.”

Hilton and Wayne are currently each working on their music careers. They even exchanged phone numbers for a future collaboration.

“That would be the sickest thing,” said Hilton, who said she hopes to release her second album this summer.

But Wayne’s got more on his mind than mere music. Show him the money!

“At the end of this year, I want to be able to say that I banked $50 million,” he said. “Not generated $50 million, but actually banked $50 million.”

The ‘Jenny From the Block’ hitmaker – who is currently appearing on the judging panel of ‘American Idol’ – has revealed the 28-year-old rapper features on her ‘I’m Into You’, from her forthcoming seventh album ‘Love?’.

Speaking to fans during an online chat, she explained: “My next single I believe will be a song called ‘I’m Into You’ and it’s going to feature Lil Wayne, so look out for that. Lil Wayne is very unique and fresh. Plus he’s on my single!”

The singer-and-actress scored major success in the US with her last single, ‘On The Floor’ – which number five in the US Billboard hot 100 chart – and recently told how she had felt “emotionally connected” to it from the first time producer RedOne played it to her.

She said: “The minute RedOne played it for me, I made him play it 20 times in a row, and I just sat there at the board and I kept listening to it and listening to it.

“Because I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it, but also because of how much I love to dance and how much that’s always been such a big part of who I am since I started.”

‘Love?’ is expected to be released in May.
