Lindsay Lohan has checked into jail for a 30-day sentence, though she could be released within hours due to overcrowding.

Los Angeles County records online show the “Mean Girls” star was booked into a jail in Lynwood on Sunday night. Lohan had until Nov. 9 to report for her term, which a judge ordered after finding the 25-year-old violated her probation by being terminated from a community service assignment at a women’s shelter.

The judge imposed a complicated sentence, telling Lohan that she will now have to perform all of her community service at the county morgue or risk serving an additional 270 days in jail.

It’s Lohan’s fifth jail sentence since being arrested twice for drunken driving in 2007.

A judge made Lindsay Lohan’s world a lot smaller Wednesday, ordering the long-troubled actress confined to a jail cell for 30 days and to the state of California when she is released.

The sentence by Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner was aimed at keeping close tabs on Lohan, who acknowledged she recently violated court orders by getting booted from a community service assignment at a women’s shelter.

Lohan has been in court numerous times since her legal problems began in 2007 with a drunken driving case.

Sautner warned the actress that more time behind bars awaited if she messed up again.

In reality, however, the initial 30-day sentence will be significantly shortened by jail overcrowding, and sheriff’s officials said she may only be at the jail for a few hours. In 2007, the actress spent 84 minutes at the jail before being released, and in the past she has served about 20 percent of her sentence, which is roughly six days. The actual length of the term will be set by the Sheriff’s Department, which oversees county lockups.

The 25-year-old actress has until Nov. 9 to report for her jail term, and Sautner ruled she cannot serve house arrest, as she did previously this year.

The sentence also requires Lohan to perform community service assignments at the county morgue, undergo psychotherapy sessions, and appear monthly at court hearings between December and March.

The judge also said Lohan can no longer leave the country and needs the permission of her new “no-nonsense” probation officer to travel outside California.

In recent months, Lohan has been jet-setting, appearing in New York during Fashion Week and overseas for modeling gigs.

If Lohan fails to follow the terms imposed by the judge, she will be sent to jail for 270 days, Sautner said, explaining the approach was known as “putting the keys to the jail in the defendant’s hands.”

In court, the actress, wearing a polka-dotted dress, spoke only to acknowledge she understood the terms of her sentence.

Similar arrangements with Lohan have failed. A year ago, a judge in Beverly Hills sent her to rehab until January and told her if she stayed out of trouble, she would no longer be court-monitored and would be free to leave Los Angeles.

It was not to be. At rehab, Lohan was accused of battery on a worker, although charges were never filed. Within three weeks of her release, Lohan was accused of taking a $2,500 necklace without permission and eventually pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor theft charge.

Sautner then sentenced Lohan to four months in jail in the theft case. The term, however, was reduced to 35 days on house arrest due to jail overcrowding – an outcome that led the judge at a recent hearing to express exasperation with the actress and California’s cash-strapped jail system.

Sautner said Wednesday she would not hesitate to return Lohan to jail for nearly nine months if she failed again and laid out strict guidelines for her freedom.

Lohan will have to serve 423 hours at the county morgue, where for nearly two weeks she has been mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms and washing dirty sheets. She will also have to attend 18 psychotherapy sessions between now and March after missing several in recent months.

The judge noted that Lohan’s popularity in certain circles is low, saying another women’s shelter refused to accept her for a community service assignment because she was considered a bad example for the women.

Lohan’s previous probation officer also wanted off the case, and the new officer is under orders to immediately report any violations directly to Sautner.

The actress has now been sentenced to county jail five times since being arrested twice for drunken driving in 2007, and each of her incarcerations has been shortened due to overcrowding.

Her current court troubles came after she was terminated from the shelter program after failing to show up nine times at the center. She told her probation officer the assignment was not fulfilling, according to a probation report. Sautner had sent Lohan to the facility in downtown Los Angeles, thinking that it might benefit the actress.

Now the judge says all of Lohan’s community service hours will be spent at the morgue.

That assignment has not been without drama. She was turned away the first day after showing up 40 minutes late but has shown up early several times since then. Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter declined Tuesday to characterize how Lohan’s service was progressing.

Sautner told Lohan that the coroner’s office was unhappy with her posting Twitter updates about her experience and that she should stop. In turn, the judge said she told the agency not to hold any press conferences about Lohan, as they had done on the day she was turned away.

Lohan’s probation on her four-year-old drunken driving case was extended until March, and she remains on probation in the necklace theft case until 2014.

Sautner said the restrictions may be lifted early if Lohan completes her service and counseling before the court’s deadlines.

The troubled actress – who was last week told she had to clean morgues for 16 hours a week as part of a court order until a probation hearing on November 2 – will reportedly earn almost $1 million for showing it all in the adult magazine.

The 25-year-old star originally turned down a $750,000 offer from Playboy boss Hugh Hefner to pose nude, demanding that the figure should be closer to $1 million.

It is believed the shoot started over the weekend, with Lindsay – who could face up to 18 months in prison if she is found guilty of violating the terms of her probation for a 2007 DUI conviction – having to fit it in around her court-ordered morgue duties.

However, this isn’t the first time the star has posed naked.

In 2008, the ‘Mean Girls’ actress stripped off to recreate the infamous ‘Last Sitting’ shots of Marilyn Monroe, taken by photographer Bert Stern just six weeks before she died of a drugs overdose, with Lindsay admitting at the time she was “comfortable” with nudity.

She said: “I didn’t have to put much thought into it. Working with Bert Stern on a Marilyn Monroe shoot was really an honour. When is that ever going to come up again?

“I wanted to portray the look and get it point-on as much as I could, to bring it back to life. I was comfortable with it, the nudity and everything.”

Lindsay Lohan arrived late to her first day of community service at the county morgue Thursday and was turned away, another hiccup in the actress’ effort to prove to a judge that she is complying with terms of her probation.

Lohan had been told to arrive at 8 a.m. for an orientation session but arrived 40 minutes late, spokesman Craig Harvey said. The actress was told to try again on Friday, but will have to arrive at 7 a.m., he said.

Steve Honig, Lohan’s spokesman, said in a statement that the actress was late because she didn’t know which entrance to report to and “and confusion caused by the media waiting for her arrival.”

Lohan apologized later Monday on Twitter. “I’m sorry for the confusion that I may of caused to those at the Coroner’s office. Won’t happen again, now I know where to go!” Lohan tweeted.

“With all the stress and pressure from yesterday and today, I’ve never been so happy to go to therapy!!!!” she also tweeted.

The “Mean Girls” star’s tardy arrival at the morgue came a day after she was scolded by a judge for being terminated from a community service assignment at a women’s shelter. The hearing ended with Lohan’s probation being revoked and her being led from court in handcuffs.

She later posted $100,000 bail and was released.

She remains on probation for a pair of drunken driving arrests in 2007 and a misdemeanor theft case filed earlier this year after she was accused of taking a $2,500 necklace without permission. She pleaded no contest in that theft case.

Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner ordered Lohan to complete 16 hours of work at the morgue before a Nov. 2 hearing. The judge will determine whether Lohan violated the terms of her probation by being terminated from the Downtown Women’s Center after being late several times and not showing up for her service.

The actress had done community service in recent days with the American Red Cross, but Sautner said Lohan would not get credit for that work as part of her court case.

A probation officer noted in a report filed Wednesday that Lohan told her that the work at the shelter was “not fulfilling.”

Lohan will be doing mostly janitorial work at the morgue, Harvey said. Her duties will include cleaning and stocking restrooms, mopping floors and washing sheets that the facility uses, he said.

The actress will have to surrender her cellphone while working at the morgue and will have to bring her own lunch, Harvey said.

Lindsay Lohan hit Paris this week and was spotted clubbing with Le Baron owner and street artist Andre Saraiva.

The duo were photographed hand-in-hand leaving Parisian boite Raspoutine after LiLo had decamped from Italy, where she was shooting a fashion spread for clothing designer Philipp Plein.

Lindsay Lohan is philosophical about her recent house arrest, insisting she “enjoyed” the punishment as it allowed her to tackle her heavy workload.

The Mean Girls star spent 35 days in home confinement in her Venice Beach, California apartment earlier this year after violating her probation stemming from a 2007 Dui case.

But the actress insists she embraced the sentence by using the time to work.

Lohan explains, “I really enjoyed it actually because I got a lot of work done at home.

“There are three (movie) projects that I am going to be working on but I can’t say anything as nothing is signed yet.”

Now the 25 year old is determined to complete her court-ordered 480 hours of community service so she can focus on making her acting comeback.

She adds, “I’m just trying to get as much community service out of the way so I actually can work.”

Lindsay Lohan was expected to jet off to the Hamptons or LA to celebrate her birthday and her release from 35 days of house arrest on Saturday, but instead surprisingly opted for a quiet family meal at home. Lindsay Lohan was freed from house arrest Wednesday morning, ending a drama-filled 35 days and opening the next chapter in the troubled starlet’s efforts to put her court troubles behind her.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Lohan’s electronic monitoring equipment was removed shortly before 10 a.m. and she was removed from the jail system around 10:20 a.m.

Lohan is not entirely free. She still has to complete 480 hours of community service, complete an anti-shoplifting class and comply with other terms of her release.

Her spokesman, Steve Honig, said Lohan is “very focused” on resuming her community service, which is being performed at a downtown Los Angeles women’s shelter and will also require her to work at the county’s morgue.

Lohan, 24, was sentenced to four months in jail in May for violating her probation in a 2007 drunken driving case by taking a necklace from a jewelry store without permission earlier this year. She pleaded no contest to the theft and received no additional penalties, but will remain on probation for several more months.

Lohan’s shorter confinement was the result of jail overcrowding in Los Angeles’ only women’s jail and mandatory credits, but it was not without drama.

Just days into her captivity, authorities were summoned to Lohan’s home in the beachside community of Venice because her monitoring equipment reported her out of the area. The equipment had to be replaced because of a faulty battery in the actress’ ankle monitor, and after officials learned that a houseguest had spilled a drink another piece of monitoring equipment.

Lohan was summoned to court last week after probation officials told a judge the actress had tested positive for alcohol. Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner determined after reviewing Lohan’s case file that the actress was no longer required to undergo random drug tests and that she had not been ordered by a previous judge to abstain from alcohol.

Sautner did order the actress to stop hosting parties while serving house, telling her at one point, “Don’t give people a reason to hate you.”

Lohan has struggled to put a pair of 2007 drunken driving and drug arrests behind her. She was jailed twice and sent to rehab twice last year for failing to comply with the terms of her probation. She was accused of the necklace theft roughly three weeks after her release from rehab.

She has said she wants to resume acting and remains a cast member of a biopic of the infamous New York Gotti crime family titled, “Gotti: In The Shadow of My Father.” Shooting on the film is expected to begin later this year.

Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner chided Lohan on Thursday for having rooftop parties at her home while serving house arrest on a probation violation but said the actress hadn’t violated any other rules.

“If you are guilty of some violation of your probation, I don’t see it,” Sautner said. “What you are guilty of is extremely poor judgment.”

Lohan tearfully hugged her attorney, Shawn Holley, after the hearing.

Earlier, the actress told Sautner she wanted to put her court troubles behind her.

“Do you want to get on with your life, tell me,” Sautner asked.

“Yes, I do,” Lohan replied. It was the only time she spoke during the hearing.

The judge said Lohan didn’t violate her probation by testing positive for alcohol during a recent test. The testing requirement, imposed by another judge, ended in February.

Holley said after the hearing that Lohan, 24, had undergone more scrutiny than any other defendant and has been abiding by the terms of her sentence.

“She has done nothing wrong,” Holley said, noting that alcohol is not illegal.

Some of the parties at Lohan’s home in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles were photographed by paparazzi.

“Don’t give people a reason to hate you,” Sautner told her. “Don’t do stupid things that fly in the face of the court’s order.”

Sautner said Lohan can only have one friend over at her house at a time but can host family and business associates.

Sautner ordered Lohan to appear in court on July 21, but said she wouldn’t incur any additional penalties if she abided by the terms of her probation.

Sautner is the fifth judge to handle Lohan’s case since she was arrested twice in 2007. In April, Lohan was found in violation of her probation for taking a necklace without permission.

Lohan is nearing the end of what is expected to be a 35-day term on house arrest on a four-month jail sentence. Sautner made clear she didn’t approve of the house arrest or Lohan’s early release, but noted it was out of her control.

All of Lohan’s jail stints have been shortened due to jail overcrowding.

Her house arrest has been far from uneventful – authorities went to the actress’ home four days after she began her sentence on May 26 because her ankle monitor reported being out of range.

The battery in Lohan’s ankle monitor was going bad, authorities determined, but also noted in a probation report that she had hosted friends the night before and one of them had spilled a drink on some of the equipment.
