Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan can count a “Tonight Show” studio audience among her boosters.

In an appearance taped to air on the talk show Tuesday, Lohan received a standing ovation from the crowd, according to a person connected with the show.

“Tonight” host Jay Leno asked the 24-year-old about touchy subjects including her court appearance and brief jailing Friday, her family and what she’s learned from her experiences.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because NBC had announced Lohan’s appearance but not its details.

Lohan’s interview with Leno was taped separately at the conclusion of Monday’s show. The “Mean Girls” actress is a late addition to Tuesday’s show, knocking a scheduled guest, Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, to another date.

Lohan told the “Tonight” audience that she’s playing the wife of John Gotti Jr. in the crime family movie, “Gotti: Three Generations.” Her casting in the role was announced last week but it was unclear if her legal woes might affect it.

A Los Angeles judge sentenced Lohan to 120 days for violating her probation by taking a designer necklace, a charge the judge reduced from felony grand theft to a misdemeanor. The actress’s attorneys appealed the jail sentence, Lohan’s fourth, and she was freed on bond after a few hours behind bars.

Lohan told Leno she found the sentence “shocking” and said it her left her “kind of numb.”

Lindsay Lohan will soon be carrying a bucket around folks who’ve just kicked one.

The “Mean Girls” star has one week to enroll in the community service program at the Los Angeles County morgue, a judge ruled Friday.

She must serve 120 hours with the coroner, doing maintenance and janitorial work in areas where dead bodies are a common sight, a spokesman told the Daily News.

“She will empty trash, vacuum, clean restrooms,” Asst. Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner said.

“She won’t be in the autopsy area. However, there will be some exposure to bodies. She’ll see them but won’t touch them.”

Lohan completed a much shorter drunken-driving program at the morgue as part of her original sentence for back-to-back DUIs in 2007.

She watched a presentation and toured the crypts, but it was over in four hours.

Along with the new morgue service, Lohan must complete 360 hours at the Downtown Women’s Center.

That could be a formidable task since she’s facing a trial for her alleged necklace theft in early June and hopes to begin shooting a Gotti biopic with costars John Travolta and Joe Pesci in New York as early as September.

The “Freaky Friday” star, 24, also has a four-month jail sentence hanging over her head for violating her probation with the alleged necklace theft.

A judge sentenced her to the 120 days behind bars Friday, but her lawyer quickly filed an appeal. She was bailed out within hours, but her community service was not postponed.

Her appeal is expected to take months.

Meanwhile, if she loses at the theft trial, she could face a separate sentence up to one year in county jail.

The Gotti film’s production company, Fiore Films, is standing by the decision to cast Lohan as Kim Gotti, daughter-in-law of the late John Gotti.

She’s even set to appear on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” Tuesday to talk about the role, a source told the News.

“She is still in the film provided she can fulfill her obligations,” Fiore spokesman Steve Honig told the News.

“She has been cast in this role. She still has the role and we’re very excited about her being in the movie,” he said.

Honig said it was too early to talk about how far the movie’s producers are willing to go to keep Lohan if her legal troubles get in the way.

“We’re not going to speculate on ‘What if this happens, what if that happens,’” he said.

“We’re dealing with a few unknowns. Once we start understanding exactly what the situation is, that’s when we can start making some decisions.”

Several bailiffs led Lindsay Lohan from a Los Angeles courtroom on Friday after a judge who heard evidence against the actress in a theft case sentenced her to 120 days in jail for a probation violation.

The actress, who often conferred with her attorney throughout a preliminary hearing, showed little reaction as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner gave her ruling.

Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Holley, said she will appeal, allowing the Lohan, 24, to post bail, which was set at $75,000.

The “Mean Girls” star also was ordered to serve more than 400 hours of community service, including 300 hours at a women’s center.

It will be Lohan’s fourth jail stint.

The ruling came after Sautner reduced Lohan’s grand theft case down to a misdemeanor and after prosecutors gave their case against the actress.

Sautner ruled that prosecutors had shown that Lohan violated her probation on a 2007 drunken driving case. The judge refused to dismiss the theft case against Lohan, who entered a not guilty plea Friday.

“I see the intent here,” Sautner said. “I see a level of brazenness with `Let me see what I can get away with here.’”

But Sautner also said she often sees more serious cases that get reduced to lesser charges and that she wanted to give the Lohan “an opportunity.”

Lohan has been a courthouse fixture since last May when she missed a hearing in her drunken driving case. Since then, two judges have sent her to jail twice and rehab, also twice.

Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers on Friday called four witnesses, including two police officers who handled the stolen necklace case.

One officer received the necklace from Lohan’s assistant after detectives obtained a search warrant – which was never served – to retrieve it from Lohan’s home. The investigative detective also testified that she verified the actress wore the necklace days after it was taken and was photographed with it by paparazzi.

Lohan made three visits within a week to a jewelry store that accused her of stealing the necklace but never purchased anything before leaving with the item, the shop’s owner testified.

Sofia Kaman said she waited a day to report the necklace stolen because Lohan had told her she would return the next day to purchase a ring. The actress never returned. The first time Kaman saw Lohan since the Jan. 22 store visit was Friday.

Kaman says she did not have any agreement with Lohan allowing her to leave the store with the necklace.

Lohan was wearing two of her own necklaces when entered the store, and she wore both pieces to court on Friday, taking them off at one point while her attorney cross-examined Kaman.

Holley showed Kaman the necklaces and questioned her about why she didn’t notice the actress was still wearing the store’s necklace, even though Lohan’s neck – and by Holley’s description, cleavage – were clearly visible.

“I wasn’t looking at her chest,” Kaman said. “I was looking at her face.”

Holley’s cross-examination of Kaman was at times testy, with the judge warning both the store owner and Holley to be more respectful.

Holley had planned to call the actress’ assistant, but opted not to have her testify.

On Wednesday, Fiore Films announced it had cast the actress to play the wife of John Gotti Jr., the son of the infamous mob boss dubbed the “Teflon Don,” in a biopic of the family. The project, title, “Gotti: Three Generations,” is scheduled to begin shooting later this year in Lohan’s native New York.

In an interview with the AP, Lohan said she was eager to put her court cases behind her and once again be known as an actress.

“I’m really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do,” Lohan said.

“I think in the past, I had a lot of distractions,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot. I’ve lived a lot. When I’m on set, it’s about the film.”

Lindsay Lohan is facing a crucial court hearing during which prosecutors will lay out some of the evidence they have to support a felony grand theft case over a necklace.

The daylong preliminary hearing Friday is expected to feature testimony about Lohan’s actions and the necklace, which an upscale jewelry store reported the actress took without permission in January. Prosecutors and the store, Kamofie & Co., have said the necklace is worth $2,500, although Lohan’s attorney has indicated she plans to challenge its value.

The actress has rejected two plea deals that carried guaranteed jails sentences. This week, the makers of a pair of films announced they have cast Lohan in two movies, one of which will begin production later this year.

Preliminary hearings generally end with a judge determining there is enough evidence for the case to continue, although the levels of proof are lower than during a trial.

The stakes are slightly higher for Lohan, who was on probation for a 2007 drunken driving case when Kamofie reported the necklace stolen. The judge who initially handled the necklace theft case has said he thinks Lohan violated the terms of her release, but has assigned the preliminary hearing to another jurist. The new judge, Stephanie Sautner, could send Lohan to jail after Friday’s hearing if she determines there is enough evidence to support the probation violation.

Lohan, 24, has been jailed three times before, but has been released early due to jail overcrowding.

She has pleaded not guilty in the grand theft case and her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, has said the actress is innocent.

Lohan has been a courthouse fixture since last May when she missed a hearing in her drunken driving case. Since then, two judges have sent her jail twice and rehab, also twice.

Kamofie & Co. reported its necklace stolen roughly three weeks after Lohan was released from treatment at the Betty Ford Center, where she also encountered trouble. A rehab worker accused Lohan of battery during an argument in which the worker told authorities Lohan had missed curfew and was caught with two other girls who admitted they had been drinking.

Prosecutors declined to file charges in that incident.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Lohan said she was eager to put her court cases behind her and once again be known as an actress.

Charlie Sheen may not realize it, but Betty White is really the one who’s “winning.”

The legendary actress had a few choice words for Sheen and others of his ilk – including one Miss Lindsay Lohan – who seem to be foolishly turning their fame into infamy.

“I cannot stand the people who get wonderful starts in show business, and who abuse it,” White told London’s Daily Mail. “Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen, for example, although there are plenty of others, too.”

“They are the most blessed people in the world and they don’t appreciate it,” the 89-year-old said.

And while White and her former sitcom co-stars “considered ourselves lucky to be on the box, never complained if a critic didn’t like us, dressed modestly and were always on our best behavior in public,” she pointed out that many in Hollywood can’t say the same today.

“They party too much, don’t learn their lines, are unprofessional and they grumble about everything. I think they are terribly ungrateful,” White said.

The “Hot in Cleveland” star, however, wasn’t quick to criticize without giving some advice as well. The biggest key: “Respect your profession.”

“There is an enormous population out there, who would sell their souls to do what you do,” she said. “It’s an amazing life, so make sure you appreciate every minute of it.”

White herself is still doing just that, more than five decades after her career began.

“I have a wild workload, but as long as my energy is good, I don’t get tired. Plus, I love what I do, so it never feels like work,” she explained. “I’m tremendously lucky to have good health, and I never take it for granted.”

The thrice-married White also applied a similar philosophy to her love life, once she found her true Mr. Right. Though her husband Allen Ludden died in 1981, the feisty actress isn’t looking for a replacement.

“Once you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?” she said. “I made two mistakes before Allen, but the love of your life doesn’t come along in every life, so I am very grateful that I found him.”

Lindsay Lohan is set to play the daughter of a mobster in a new movie.

The troubled actress is in talks to portray Victoria Gotti – the daughter of infamous New York mobster John Gotti – in a new film about his life, ‘Gotti: Three Generations’, which will also star John Travolta.

Gotti’s son, John Gotti Jr., has worked on the script for the film and many members of the Gotti family will be on set.

Mark Fiore, the executive producer of the film, told Entertainment Weekly: “We have a real inside look. John Jr. will answer any question you ask him. The Gotti family, they don’t try to put a sweater over things.”

In 1992, Gotti – who died in 2002 – was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of justice, illegal gambling, extortion, tax evasion and loansharking and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

This is the second role Lindsay – who is currently facing charges of felony grand theft after being accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from an upmarket Californian boutique – has been linked to this week.

She is set to play murdered actress Sharon Tate in the movie ‘Eyes of a Dreamer’, which is based on the life of murderer Charles Manson – whose followers famously killed pregnant Sharon in 1969.

The starlet was spotted with the wealthy, soon-to-be bachelor at Top of the Standard on Tuesday night.

Chatwal — who is divorcing his actress wife, Priya Sachdev, whom he married in a 10-day, multicity wedding in 2006 — flew Lohan into the city on his private jet and has been putting her up in the penthouse of his Chatwal Hotel on West 44th Street.

The pair have repeatedly been seen together all over town. Sources close to Chatwal confirmed he’s separated from Sachdev, that he recently broke up with model Esther Canadas and has been spending time with Lohan. Earlier in the night, Lohan and Chatwal turned up at Don Hill’s for the after-party for Uma Thurman’s movie “Ceremony,” where the pair kept it low-key with owner Nur Khan. But a source close to Lohan insisted, “They have a friendship and a business relationship, and that is it.”

This weekend, Lindsay Lohan’s will-power proved to be less wobbly than her high heels have been lately.

The sometimes actress, who blamed her photographed fall in front of lower East Side bar Motor City last week on being a “klutz” on her Facebook page, continued her spree of NYC bar-hopping on Friday by attending the Cut Copy after-party at RiffRaff’s in the Flatiron District with some friends — including Paz de la Huerta’s punching bag, Samantha Swetra. After, she headed west to the Top of the Standard, where we first spotted her on the roof-deck, sporting a black baseball cap and chain-smoking Parliament cigarettes.

At approximately 3:15 a.m., LiLo entered the upstairs bathroom near the roof-deck with three men. Only moments later, however, Lohan and one of her three companions quickly departed, while the two other men remained inside for several minutes.

An insider from the evening said the embattled actress – who has been to rehab five reported times – was offered “blow” by one of her cohorts inside the bathroom, but “(Lindsay) said she couldn’t be around that stuff” and “ran away,” causing her speedy exit from the lavatory.

The incident didn’t startle the starlet straight to bed however; Lohan remained inside the venue until nearly 4:30 a.m., when they finally raised the lights to announce the club was closing for the evening.

Her hard-partying ways come as no surprise. We were shown just how low LiLo can go in the face-planted snaps of the trouble doll that emerged last Thursday. The photos set off a series of online accusations that had the blond adamantly denying any foul play.

“I was not drinking, nor do I drink!” the lawsuit-prone actress told TMZ.com on Friday.

But we hear Lohan’s story is about as sturdy as her gait. Earlier that evening, a source who is close to the situation tells us the actress dined at upper West Side kosher restaurant, Prime Ko, with her brother, Michael, her sister, Ali, and four others – including Vikram Chatwal. (The source tells us the hotelier not only flew LiLo out in his private jet on Tuesday, but has been housing her at The Chatwal Hotel in Times Square.)

During the dinner, a restaurant insider tells us Lohan’s table dined on pizza, crispy rice with spicy tuna, and steak, accompanied with vodka and wine for everyone besides the under-age Ali (who is just 17).

And we do mean everyone: Despite the “Machete” star’s repeated claims she is off-the-bottle, the actress was drinking kosher wine, which was served with the meal. Later on, though, a source who was with the blond at the time of her tumble (and not at dinner) said she had only been consuming sugar-free Red Bull inside the LES bar.
