Actor/rapper Nick Cannon gave gossips a scare on Friday night when he dashed away from an event promoting his show America’s Got Talent to be by pregnant wife Mariah Carey’s side.

Many at the launch felt sure Cannon was rushing off to join his wife in the delivery room.

He was asked at the event if this would be the weekend his twins were born, and he replied, “It could be… You can plan as much as you wanna plan, but they’re gonna come when they wanna come.”

There was no new baby news from the Cannon/Carey camp.

The pregnant singer, who turned 41 today, tweeted about how she almost gave birth to her twins on her birthday.

She is now back at home after the false alarm.

Taking to twitter, the singer posted: ‘So #dembabies really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary!

‘I started having contractions last night..went 2 the hospital.

‘Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control.

‘But they almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!: ).’

In December, Mariah’s husband Nick Cannon confirmed they were expecting twins, later revealing they are due to have a boy and a girl.

They are due to be born in the spring of this year.

Mariah has spoken about how she conceived the twins naturally and also opened up about how she miscarried when she became pregnant, shortly after marrying Canon in April 2008.

Mariah Carey isn’t really one for subtly, so it’s no surprise her baby shower was a lavish over-the-top affair.

The 41-year-old star, who is currently expecting twins with Nick Cannon, 31, has released photographs from the celebration, which was held at the Montage Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunday.

The singer, who wore a Roberto Cavalli dress for the occasion, is seen taking pride of place in a plush chair while her doting husband caresses her growing baby bump.

The venue was decked out in blue and pink balloons – she is set to give birth to a boy and a girl – and no expense was spared in food and decoration.

Guests, included American Idol judge Randy Jackson and CNN’s Piers Morgan, were treated to gourmet pizzas, appetizers and banana, chocolate and red velvet cupcakes.

Napkins, servers’ aprons and other items were emblazoned with the couples’ names and pictures of baby carriages.

The pair received many gifts, included a huge stuffed giraffe from Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, but her favourite present came from her fans.

‘Nick and I were so grateful to everyone who came with us to celebrate,’ she told America’s Life & Style magazine.

‘There was a lot of love in the room, and to top it off, fans from more than 50 countries sent well-wishes in a book they made for our twins titled Always Be My Babies.

‘It was a night I will never forget.’

Cannon is said to have also enjoyed the shower, with a close friend of the couple, describing him as ‘very loving’.

‘Seeing them together as a couple they’re very loving with each other and you can just feel the excitement between them over the babies,’ Stefano Zagni told Radar online.

‘During the baby shower Nick was running around with his camera taking lots of pictures but every two or three minutes he would go over to check on Mariah and see if she was okay.

‘He dotes on her. They completely adore each other and are so much in love.

‘I just think they’re going to be the perfect family. I really do. I think they’re going to make great parents.
They’re going to be very loving and hands-on.’

Mariah is expected to give birth in at the end of April.

Life & Style Magazine has confirm that Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are expecting a boy–and a girl! “It’s all about pink and blue these days,” a friend of the couple said. “It’s truly going to be a dream come true for them. They get a son and daughter.”

And Mariah couldn’t be happier. “Even before we announced it was twins, I was trying to keep everything genderneutral because I didn’t want to impose an identity on them too soon,” Mariah said with a laugh. “There were fan contests on Twitter about what gender they are and rumors about them being two boys or two girls — but nobody guessed this!”

Nick first revealed in December that the couple were having twins. “In order for my wife and I to have our life, we need to be up front and I need to be able to share things with you and be real,” he said on his radio show. “I didn’t even tell my wife I was gonna do this. I’m probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission. We’re having twins!” They’re set to welcome their bundles of joy in April. “It’s been a long journey–but a happy one,” says mom-to-be Mariah.

Nick Cannon announced on his radio show Thursday that his wife is expecting twins.

Said Cannon on New York’s 92.3 station: “I haven’t even told my wife I doing this so I’m probably gonna get yelled at for not getting permission. … We are having twins!”

Mariah Carey’s publicist Cindi Berger confirmed the news as well.

Cannon said two VIPs did get the scoop: President Barack Obama and wife Michelle. Carey told the first couple during a taping of a “Christmas in Washington” show.

Cannon added: “Both babies are healthy, in tiptop shape.”

Carey, 40, and Cannon, 30, have been the subject of a baby watch since they got married after a whirlwind romance two years ago.

She spent years longing for a baby and now Mariah Carey has hinted she may be expecting TWO bundles of joy.

The 40-year-old singer referred to her unborn child as ‘they’ in an upcoming interview with Radio Disney, fuelling rumours that she and husband Nick Cannon are expecting twins.

While discussing her new album Merry Christmas II You, the star revealed she began recording the album after finding out she was pregnant.

‘I just hope that they don’t turn out hating Christmas!’ she joked to Radio Disney’s Ernie in a radio interview to be aired on Tuesday.

Carey, who has not revealed her due date, kept her bump well hidden during a performance at New York’s Rockefeller Centre.

And while her husband Nick Cannon, 30, calls her the ‘queen of Christmas’, the couple have not yet made plans for the day.

‘I usually go to Aspen, but I’m not supposed to go there this year because I can’t ski and I can’t really do any of that stuff being pregnant.’

‘So, I’m just going to have to figure out where else we’re going to go.’
