Pregnant Mariah Carey has opened up about her miscarriage heartache after losing her first baby two years ago.

The singer and husband Nick Cannon ended months of speculation by confirming they are currently expecting a child on Thursday.
But as they revealed in the joy, they also spoke candidly about the ‘dark’ time they endured in 2008.

Mariah, 40, and Nick, 30, revealed they were set to fly out to meet family and friends at in Aspen, Colorado when a last-minute doctors appointment left them devastated.

In a preview of Mariah’s Access Hollywood three-part interview due to air this week, Cannon says:’Literally, the day we were supposed to travel to Aspen we had an ultrasound

‘Unfortunately that was a time where [the doctor] said, “I’m sorry but the pregnancy is unsuccessful”.’

The actor says his wife managed a brave face in front of friends and family.

Nick says: ‘Even though it was emotional for both of us, that’s when I really saw the strength in this woman right here. She just handled it so well.

‘And then to get on a plane and have to spend Christmas with friends and family, and no one knew. I felt like everybody was kind of speculating.
‘Literally, in a magazine, it said, “They’re gonna let everyone know during the holiday”.’

‘She was so festive and smiling, obviously for the cameras, and spending time with everyone – and then, literally, at night, [she was] crying herself to sleep.’

Meanwhile, Mariah says the heartache brought them closer together.

She revealed: ‘It was really sad. We had really to absorb this… We really learned a lot just as people.

‘It was even more of, like, preparing us to do this because of the way it happened so quickly at first. I think I was sort of in shock ‘cuz I didn’t expect [the pregnancy]… and then when that happened and I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it, that was not OK, that was not easy.

‘I’ve never really been a very forthcoming person about my personal stuff; it’s just not my thing. But, honestly, to me, this type of thing is like, “Ew, weird! Why do I have to talk about this in front of the world?”

‘It’s even strange for me to talk to people I know about it, because I just never did. It kind of shook us both and took us to a place that was really dark and difficult.’

Earlier, Mariah ended months of speculation by saying: ‘Yes, we are pregnant. This is true.

‘It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.’

Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush said that Mariah told him the baby was conceived naturally, and added that the couple does not know its sex.

The singer said she felt she had to speak out to confirm the news, adding: ‘At this point, there is no choice. I either talk or I hibernate.

While Mariah refused to name her due date, she did say: ‘It’s still early’ before continuing, ‘expecting is great’.

Nick added: ‘The greatest gift on earth is a child.

‘We’ve had names picked out from the first day we met and we want to stay true to that.’

Mariah prompted rumours that she was expecting when she stepped out in August wearing a maternity dress.

However, she quickly followed the reports with a statement from her agent Cindi Berger.

The statement read: ‘I appreciate everyone’s well wishes. But I am very superstitious. When the time is right, everyone will know – even Cindi Berger.’
In August, Cannon spoke about Mariah’s maternal instinct, explaining: ‘She’s very nurturing.

‘She’s nurturing with me and makes me breakfast at anytime and that’s my favorite food. It would be like 3 o’clock in the morning and she will still make me waffles. She’ll be the best mom.’

And asked if he would like a boy or a girl, Cannon replied: ‘It’s great to have a girl until she turns into a teenager. Then you have to worry about every other boy in the neighborhood and that would freak me out.

The singer has been the subject of months of speculation that she is expecting her first child, and though she has refused to comment on the rumors, Thandie – who has taken over Mariah’s role in new movie ‘For Colored Girls’ – let the news slip during a television interview.

When asked about why she had taken over the part from Mariah, the British actress said: “I think she is pregnant.”

However she quickly tried to backtrack, saying on show ‘The View’: “Or something major is going on in her life, so I carried the baton for her.”

Director Tyler Perry previously revealed he was shocked by Mariah’s decision to quit the movie five days before filming started.

He said: “‘I said ‘What? You’re kidding?’ It’s five days until she has to go to work, nobody does that. We have a deal.”

Mariah – who stopped drinking alcohol earlier this year – pulled out of the movie on medical advice, amid speculation she was undergoing fertility treatment with the hope of having a child with her husband Nick Cannon.

Despite the couple’s refusal to confirm the baby rumors, Nick has repeatedly praised his wife, saying she would make a “great mother”.

However, the ‘Touch My Body’ hitmaker has claimed she will make a big announcement on ‘The Today Show’ today, prompting speculation she is set to announce her pregnancy.

The ‘Hero’ singer spoke to her husband on his radio show yesterday and said the announcement will “enlighten people” as the baby rumors and speculation have become “too much” for her.

Mariah Carey is in the doghouse with a veterinarian who says the pop superstar hasn’t paid nearly $30,000 in bills for three of her prized pooches.

Veterinarian Cindy Bressler sued Carey on Wednesday in a Manhattan state court.

Bressler provided “extraordinary services” for the Jack Russell terriers – Cha-Cha, Dolomite and JJ – but the Grammy Award-winning singer paid only about $8,200 of the roughly $37,800 in charges, the lawsuit says. The bills cover a little more than a month of care.

Bressler’s lawyer, Michael C. Posner, declined to elaborate on the dogs’ treatment. Bressler, whose website notes that she makes house calls in New York City and the Hamptons and caters to “prominent New Yorkers and celebrity clients,” didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail message seeking comment.

Carey’s spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to telephone and e-mail messages.

The pop diva has made her dogs something of characters in her multiplatinum-selling career, including in some comic video sketches made as part of an MTV.com promotion and posted on YouTube. In one, she and JJ compare the fit of their jeans: “I told you those `fat-free’ dog treats weren’t fat-free,” she scolds.

She also regularly chronicles her dogs’ doings on her Twitter feed, from Cha-Cha urinating on her dressing room floor and jumping on her last September to Dolomite stealing her underwear out of a suitcase while she was vacationing in March.

Known for R&B-inflected singles such as “Vision of Love” and “Hero,” Carey, 40, has sold more than 50 million albums during her 20-year career. Her 18 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart put her ahead of every other artist except the Beatles.

Her “The Emancipation of Mimi” was the best-selling album of 2005, selling 5 million copies. Her most recent album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” was released last year.

She also has appeared in movies, earning praise for her role in last year’s “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.”

She is married to actor and producer Nick Cannon, and they recently welcomed a new addition to their household: a puppy named Jackie Lambchops, born to Cha-Cha this month, according to Carey’s Twitter feed.

A voluptuous Mariah Carey took to the stage in Arkansas yesterday amid mounting rumors she’s expecting a baby.

The singer, who put her curves on show in a fitted scoop-neck gown, belted out her biggest hits at a performance for Wal-Mart shareholders in Fayetteville.

But she kept mum on the pregnancy rumors and just focused on the job instead.

Her husband Nick Cannon, 29, spoke on his radio show about the reports that Carey, 41, is expecting their first child.

He said: ‘I’m pretty sure that when my wife is ready to make any announcement it won’t be to the media, to the public, first.

‘She’ll tell her family, she’ll tell her friends, and then, you know, when she’s ready to share with the rest of the world, who is her extended family and friends, then she’ll let everybody know.’

Cannon also joked about possible names for their child.

He said: ‘We’re gonna do it like George Foreman.

‘We’re gonna name all of our kids Mariah no matter if they’re boys or girls… Mariah No. 1, Boy Mariah, Man Mariah, Tall Mariah. It’s gonna be a house full of people named Mariah.’

Mariah’s spokeswoman Cindi Berger has refused to deny the pregnancy speculation, saying only: ‘I’m not at liberty to discuss Mariah’s personal life at this moment.’

The pop diva, 40, who’s getting plumper by the hour, dropped out of Tyler Perry’s latest movie because of her condition.

Carey has recently gone to great lengths to hide her baby bump from photographers, the Web site reported.

Reps for Carey and hip-hop hubby Nick Cannon didn’t respond to requests for comment. At the Film Independent Spirit Awards in March, Carey — who could barely walk in her sky-high heels — said she had “something special” on the way.

The couple got hitched in 2008.

Is she or isn’t she?

Mariah Carey abruptly dropped out of her next project – a role in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” – on Tuesday, fueling rumors that she’s pregnant.

While speculation has run rampant that she’s with child since she married Nick Cannon in 2008, the 41-year-old started further whispers when she was spotted with her hubby outside an L.A. medical clinic this month.

Carey and Cannon, who have both talked about wanting to start a family, have neither confirmed nor denied the recent claims.

But Carey’s longtime rep Cindi Berger gave a rather cryptic comment Thursday.

“She is not doing the movie because her doctor advised her not to,” Berger told Us Weekly. She then insisted to us that she could not “comment any further.”

If that wasn’t enough, industry sources are abuzz that Mimi could – at last – be with child.

“It would certainly explain her decision to drop out of the movie,” says an insider. “It was a golden opportunity. She’d have been working with Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson, Phylicia Rashad and Loretta Devine – and she already made magic with [director] Tyler Perry once before.”

Indeed, Mimi drew rave reviews – and a Hollywood International Film Festival award – for her turn as a social worker this year in “Precious,” which Perry co-produced.

Says another insider: “She’s finally being taken seriously as an actress. I’m sure she wanted to keep the momentum going, so she would have to have a really good reason, like a pregnancy, to give up this movie.”

But fans of the “Imperfect Angel” needn’t fret that Mariah is disappearing from the biz altogether: We hear that she’s working on a holiday CD – a followup to her 1994 “Merry Christmas” album – that will be released at the end of this year.

If our math is correct, that would mean that Carey and her mister may have two reasons to celebrate – just in time for the holidays.

The singer took to her Twitter.com account to tell fans about the electrical fire that broke out under her feet as she was waiting to take the stage at a concert.

She tweeted, “In Egypt getting ready to go on stage and suddenly there was a surge of power and an electrical fire started under my feet!

“Naturally, my emergency instincts kicked in and I put out the flames w/a towel.”

Carey has become quite the fire stopper of late – last year she put out a blaze at the home she shares with husband Nick Cannon.

The singer was celebrating St. Valentine’s Day with her man when a fire broke out in their master bedroom.

Carey recalls, “He (Nick) had given me an enormous amount of roses, so I picked up the vase and poured out the roses, and went back and forth from the bathroom putting out the flames with water… I’m good in a crisis.”

She’s made no secret of her plans to start a family with Nick Cannon, so when Mariah Carey stepped out with a fuller figure than usual over the weekend she had all of Hollywood talking.

But the 40-year-old singer, who put her curvy figure on show in Beverly Hills on Saturday in a short orange dress, has been quick to nip the baby rumours in the bud.

Her spokesperson issued a statement denying speculation she’s expecting her first child, telling America’s Us Magazine that she’s ‘not pregnant’.

But the couple hope there will be children on the horizon eventually.

Cannon, 29, told MTV News in January: ‘We absolutely plan to have a family. But we gotta prioritize, because that’s a major, major priority. We wanna make sure everything is out of the way and that we don’t have any distractions.’

And they’ve already decided what they’ll call their first child.

Mariah said in October: ‘We have to keep the name secret because if we told everybody, then somebody might use it and then we have to change it, and then it wouldn’t be as good.

‘We picked these names out a long time ago.’

In the meantime, the pair, who dined at the Beverly Glen Deli after Mariah had a brief encounter with a police officer, are busy planning to renew their vows on their second wedding anniversary on April 30.

He revealed: ‘We get married every year! That’s our thing. That’s what we’ll be doing on the actual [anniversary]… We’ll do something, a party or event, just to celebrate.’

The couple first tied the knot in a secret ceremony in the Caribbean in 2008.

It was Carey’s second marriage – she wed record executive Tommy Mottola in 1993 but the pair divorced five years later.
