The media mogul made the joke about Love at his “Running Russell Simmons” launch party at Lavo on Tuesday after we asked him what he thought of the nude photos she posted on Twitter.

But on Friday, he told us he regretted offending Love: “My joke about Courtney Love was more about me than Courtney. She is a talented, sweet girl who, like me and everyone else, is in constant reform. I’ve been calling her but haven’t been able to reach her yet. I hope she still considers me a friend.”

While Love told us the crackhead joke didn’t bother her, she added, “He’s really freaking . . . he is just a little mouthy is all.”

She said of the Twitter photos, “There’s lots of pictures, and I’m really ashamed of it now, but I know he didn’t mean to hurt me.”

Russell Simmons must have been high on veggie juice when he called his pal Courtney Love “a crackhead” for posting nude photos of herself on Twitter.

“I think she is a sweet girl . . . It’s probably exciting to be a crackhead, I wouldn’t say I was a crackhead but I did smoke a lot of crack,” he joked at the launch party for his new Oxygen series, “Running Russell Simmons.”

“I had fun smoking a lot of angel dust . . . Right now I’m a monk. I’m boring, I’m on a green juice fast at this moment so I’m a little high now. I had a double shot of ginger, which makes you a little flighty.”

Love, who didn’t make it to his party at Midtown hot spot Lavo, told us last night: “I’m fairly insulted that he associates me with that drug. What does that mean?” Other guests included Tyson Beckford, Nick Cannon, Petra Nemcova, Gayle King and Rev. Al Sharpton.

Sometimes, a fabulous price cut is all it takes.

Miss Fabulosity Kimora Lee Simmons and her ex, Russell, have finally signed a contract to sell their sprawling 35,000-square-foot mansion in Saddle River, NJ, for close to its last asking price of $13.9 million.

The unknown buyer is paying far less than the $23.8 million price tag of two years ago. The house, on four acres, includes indoor and outdoor pools. Listing broker Stephanie Rosken, of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, had no comment.

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons is leading a neighborhood campaign in his native New York to put a stop to rising violence and crime activity in the area.

The co-founder of Def Jam Records joined locals in the borough of Queens on Saturday to raise awareness about the Peace Keepers Movement, which aims to curb crime by encouraging a strong presence of men in the community in tough neighbourhoods.

Simmons tells the New York Daily News, “For me, this is significant because I grew up here.

“Not too far from here, I sold drugs. I’ve had to change, and I’ve had leaders show me the way.”

The campaign comes as statistics for the number of murders in Queens was reported to have risen by 29 per cent since the start of 2010, compared to the same period in 2009.

Russell Simmons certainly comes prepared.

While leaving the Haven 360 Oscar-week party for “The Cove” the other night, the hip-hop impresario dropped a magnum-sized Trojan condom.

“Russell reached into his pocket to get his valet ticket and something dropped on the floor,” a witness told us.

“He didn’t notice and drove off. I rushed over to pick it up, and it was a black and gold packet containing a Trojan condom.”

Simmons was at the Andaz Hotel event with Hayden Panettiere and director Fisher Stevens to toast the pro-dolphin movie.

Our source added, “This happened as he stood right next to a giant ad for his ex- wife Kimora Lee Simmons’ new TV show. A rep for Russell did not get back to us.

On today’s edition of ‘The Martha Stewart Show’ media mogul Russell Simmons got ready for Fashion Week with Martha on her very own runway to showcase some of the latest looks from his clothing lines Argyle Culture and American Classics. They also got a chance to catch up on Russell’s Twitter activity and his newest grapefruit extract beauty line created with his ex-girlfriend and Sports Illustrated supermodel, Julie Henderson.

Russell on the Dalai Lama’s Twitter followers:
M: So you’re a big Tweeter?
R: I do Tweet, but mostly not like, “I’m going to the bathroom now”, mostly it’s like prayer.
M: Prayer? Okay, so you’re giving people something to think about?
R: All the time…
M: I announced the other day actually that I want to get to my 2 millionth follower. Are you close to 2 million yet?
R: No – I’m not close to 2 million, but you know what’s funny? I noticed that Ashton Kutcher has over 3 million.
M: Yeah, and he has Tweeted about 44 million times to get that 3 million.
R: This is true. But I’ve noticed that the Dalai Lama had 25,000 [followers]. You can follow his “Holiness”…I mean you can follow Ashton too, but his “Holiness” needs followers.

Russell on his ex-girlfriend and their new grapefruit product:
R: I’m a grapefruit expert.
M: Oh, are you?
R: Yeah.
M: Oh yeah, I think you told me your ex-girlfriend [Julie Henderson] was a grapefruit heiress?
R: Yeah.
M: How did you let her go Russell?
R: (laughs) Anyway, she and I are still developing a business that involves grapefruits. So it’s kind of funny.
M: Are you using the extract of grapefruit, the skin?
R: Yes, the extract. Her family had the Henderson grapefruit.
M: Oh, from the pits?
R: I was hopeful today that she would be on the cover of Sports Illustrated but I think Brooklyn Decker is, with the announcement.
M: Oh my gosh, but I’m sure she’s one of them inside?
R: I’m sure she is.
M: And you had to let her go – for heavens sake!
R: Well, anyways, we are developing a grapefruit formula for the face. And it’s going to come out soon.
M: Well good.
R: It’s a renewal formula like the acids and the peel.
M: I totally believe in that and I love grapefruit. I think it’s one of the best fruits. What do you think? It’s sweet right?…
R: Umm, yea. I told you I’m an expert on grapefruits.

Kimora Lee Simmons reveals — maybe more than she intended — the dynamics of her failed marriage to Russell Simmons in the next Page Six Magazine, free inside The Post on Thursday.

Asked about reports that Russell generously gives her $40,000 a month in child support for their two daughters, Kimora snapped, “I hate that. He has such a big mouth. It drives me crazy, and it makes me want to thump him in the side of his head . . . It’s not accurate.”

The Baby Phat designer, her new husband, Djimon Hounsou, and the kids — Ming Lee, 9, Aoki Lee, 7, and 5-month-old Kenzo — posed for a family portrait at their Saddle River, NJ, mansion.
