Sarah Jessica Parker has a special Christmas tradition she’s passing on to her kids from her own childhood – concerning a “naked tree”.

The actress recalls the family evergreen standing bare for much of the holidays – and then miraculously coming to life on Christmas morning.
She explains, “When I grew up, we had a naked tree on Christmas, meaning it was unadorned.

“On Christmas Eve, those of us who still believed in Santa Claus – and some of us who still do – would go to bed and when we woke up in the morning the tree was decorated.

“We were told Santa wrapped our presents and decorated our tree in his spare time and we believed it.”

Parker tells Us Weekly magazine the tradition is still alive in her household.

The actress is looking forward to spending her first Christmas at home with her new baby twins, who were born to a surrogate this summer.

And she has another long-standing family tradition planned for New Year: “We go to the movies on New Years Day. It started in Cincinnati, Ohio and carried on well into when I moved out.

“I’m realising now all the movies we saw were Oscar contenders. The first comedy that I saw was Sleeper.”

Sarah Jessica Parker proudly showed off a photograph of her twin daughters on U.S. TV last night.

In the first picture seen of the babies since they were a few days old, the six-month-old siblings Tabitha and Marion look curiously at the camera wearing pink and blue babygrows.

Appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman, the Sex And The City star revealed the twins were developing incredibly different personalities.

She said: ‘They are about as unidentical as twins can be.

‘They will be six months at the end of this month and they are physically, intellectually, spiritually, geographically, politically, ideologically and religiously as different as two small six-month olds could be.’

Parker, who is married to actor Matthew Broderick, admitted their seven-year-old son James Wilkie had adjusted well to the new arrivals.

She explained: ‘He’s been very hospitable and he’s amused by them occasionally.

‘He’s annoyed by them sometimes but in fact I thought he’d forgotten about them – his world is pretty much his world which is most important.’

As Parker spoke about the joys of motherhood, she admitted she had been struggling to balance her busy workload with spending time with her twins.

Since surrogate mother Michelle Ross gave birth to the girls in an Ohio hospital in June, Parker has been splitting her time between her family and filming the Sex And The City sequel in New York and Morocco.

In recent weeks, the actress has also been fulfilling heavy promotional duties for her new film Did You Hear About The Morgans?

She said: ‘I’m probably faring as well as most working mothers in America and across the globe.

‘Some days are absolutely triumphant. Other days you’ve basically let everybody down and you lie in bed and live in regret and plan the next day.

‘Every day is Groundhog Day basically. I don’t feel like we have taken too much on though, because we always so wanted a larger family. It is such a blessing and we are so lucky and privileged.’

Earlier this month, she admitted she had regrets about taking on such a busy workload.

She said: ‘It’s been very different than when James arrived, since our family expanded in an untraditional way. We didn’t plan on having two, but were doubly blessed, and it’s been just wonderful.

‘One would prefer to be held 24 hours a day, and the other is already suffering from type A issues.

‘It’s been amazing but complicated because of my current work schedule, which I have enormous regrets about.’

Sarah Jessica Parker was forced to make emergency adjustments to her figure-hugging dress as she made her way down the red carpet in London last night.

The actress, who was at the premiere of her new movie Did You Hear About the Morgans?, was spotted tuggine at the front of her hot pink confection.

As SJP, who accessorized with Charlotte Olympia platforms, rearranged the dress, she nearly exposed herself to the photographers.

She was also seen smoothing down the rear of her super short mini.

She was joined on the red carpet by her co-star Hugh Grant.

Grant, who is nearing 50, was accompanied by his close friend and former girlfriend Liz Hurley, who like SJP wore a pink and red minidress.

The new film sees Grant reunited with SJP for the first time since they starred in 1996 movie Extreme Measures.

The actors play a couple on the verge of divorce, who are forced into setting up a new life after they witness a murder and a contract is put on their lives.

They move from the hustle and bustle of New York, to the relative calm and tranquility of a small town in Wyoming.

SJP, 44, is currently dividing her time between caring for her newly-born surrogate twins and filming scenes for the second Sex And The City movie.

But she managed to fit in the trip to London on top of her commitments.

SJP recently expressed regrets about her huge workload.

She said: ‘It’s been very different than when James (her son) arrived, since our family expanded in an untraditional way.

‘We didn’t plan on having two, but were doubly blessed, and it’s been just wonderful.

‘[Tabitha and Marion] just turned four months old.

‘One would prefer to be held 24 hours a day, and the other is already suffering from type A issues.

‘It’s been amazing but complicated because of my current work schedule, which I have enormous regrets about.’

An eastern Ohio police chief was acquitted of burglary charges Monday but convicted of three other felonies in an alleged break-in at the home of a woman who carried twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

A jury found suspended Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted on charges of burglary and unauthorized used of property or services.

Carpenter put his head in his hands after the verdict was read in Belmont County court. Messages seeking comment were left for his attorney and for prosecutors who tried the case.

Prosecutors alleged that Carpenter broke into Michelle Ross’ home in May, took items related to her pregnancy and the surrogacy, and schemed with the Police Chief Chad Dojack of neighboring Bridgeport to sell them to celebrity photographers.

Dojack faces trial in January.

Carpenter had testified that he went into the home to check it out because he saw a door open. He said he took photos of a surrogacy file that contained two ultrasound pictures and of a plaster cast of a pregnant stomach. He said he showed the photo of the cast to paparazzi and to several other people, but said he never discussed selling items from the home to the photographers.

Jurors deliberated for about 12 hours on Friday and Monday.

Carpenter faces a maximum 10 years in jail when sentenced Dec. 10. Until then, he must stay in his mother’s home and will be monitored by a GPS device.

The woman who bore twin girls for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick said Thursday that she was living in a West Virginia motel around the time a police chief is accused of breaking into her eastern Ohio home.

Michelle Ross, 26, testified that ultrasound photos, surrogacy files and tax information were gone when she returned, that someone had riffled through photos; and that a plaster cast of her abdomen from when she was pregnant with her own son was misplaced.

Ross’ testimony came in the trial in Belmont County Common Pleas Court of suspended Police Chief Barry Carpenter of Martins Ferry, where Ross lived. He is accused of breaking into her home in May and then trying to sell items related to the pregnancy to paparazzi, with the help of Police Chief Chad Dojack of neighboring Bridgeport.

Ross said the surrogacy agency moved her to the motel in May, when she was eight to nine months pregnant and uncomfortable. She said she had been a surrogate once before and had moved to Ohio from Florida.

Ross said she was not living in the home when a celebrity photographer contacted her to tell her the chiefs and others were trying to sell her personal items.

When asked by a defense attorney why she wrote about her surrogacy on MySpace.com, Ross said she was allowed to discuss it but couldn’t say for whom she was carrying.

Ross said the surrogacy agency moved her to a series of cabins after it became known that she was Parker’s surrogate. She said she lived in a hotel in Wheeling, W.Va., with her dog, cats and a python just before giving birth, while her son stayed with relatives.

She said she later delivered the twins in an emergency cesarean section.

Earlier Thursday, prosecutors played audio tapes of an investigator’s interview with Carpenter in which the chief said he entered the woman’s home because he saw the basement door wide open.

A police officer later testified that Carpenter, 32, told him, “I didn’t take anything out of that house.”

The tapes show Carpenter laughed when a state agent told him about the criminal investigation and later began crying during questioning.

Carpenter said on the tapes that he saw some “off the wall” items inside, including the plaster abdominal cast, when he entered Ross’ home, and that he secured it and left.

Carpenter said Dojack called him and said paparazzi wanted information about the surrogate and would pay $20,000 for items. He said that he talked to the Belmont County prosecutor about it and that he didn’t want anything to do with the photographers.

“They did hound me, and they were really wanting this stuff,” Carpenter said.

The prosecutor, Chris Berhalter, testified that Carpenter called him to talk about a photo taken at Ross’ home.

On the tapes, Carpenter told the investigator that he met with the photographers to tell them Ross did not live in the city anymore and that he refused to sell them anything.

When the investigator told Carpenter: “We have taped conversations of you offering to sell those items to paparazzi,” the chief said he was joking.

A celebrity photographer testified Tuesday that Carpenter told him he had access to items belonging to Ross and that he never thought the chief was joking.

Carpenter faces several felony charges, including burglary, receiving stolen property and theft in office. He could face 21 1/2 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Dojack faces counts of complicity to burglary and complicity to receiving stolen property. His trial is set for January.

Parker, star of TV’s “Sex and the City,” and film actor Broderick are raising the twin girls, named Tabitha and Marion. They are not expected to testify.

A police chief on trial in Ohio acknowledges that he joked with paparazzi about working with them to snoop on the woman who carried twins for celebrity couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

The lawyer representing suspended Chief Barry Carpenter said during opening arguments Monday that Carpenter was “foolish,” but that he never stole anything from the woman’s home.

A state prosecutor told jurors that Carpenter used his position as chief in Martins Ferry, the eastern Ohio town where surrogate Michelle Ross lived, to exploit someone’s personal and intimate privacy.

Carpenter and police chief Chad Dojack from nearby Bridgeport are accused of scheming to sell items from the house to celebrity photographers. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

Carpenter’s trial is to continue Tuesday. Dojack faces trial in January.

Sarah Jessica Parker graces the cover of Elle’s December issue and talks rumors, friendship, the twins, and Sex and the City 2!

On rumors of friction with Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall: “I don’t think anybody wants to believe that I love Kim. I adore her. I wouldn’t have done the movie without her. Didn’t and wouldn’t.”

On her decision to use a surrogate to carry her twins: “I knew there would be lots of opinions about, ‘Well, why didn’t you adopt? Why didn’t you do this? Why didn’t you do that?’ and the truth of the matter is, it wasn’t one or the other for us. We had explored, and continue to explore all options, and this one just happened first. This isn’t the period at the end of the sentence.”

On being a hands-on mom: “I love the smell of diapers; I even like when they’re wet and you smell them all warm liked a baked good. I love the smell of Balmex. Love it.”
