“I noticed a considerable decrease in Casey’s physical and mental state in the short period she was with Tila,” Jasmine Lennard told The News’ West Coast bureau chief Nancy Dillon yesterday. “It was absolutely not a reflection of who or how she was even weeks before.”

The former British model, who called the cops on the Q-Tip Queen just weeks before her death (she believed Casey had stolen things from her), says help was on the way for Johnson.

“I was trying to do exactly the same thing everyone who cared for her was doing – force her to get help,” she tearfully explained.

“Casey’s family was desperately trying to help her. And yes, relations were strained, but she loved her family.” Lennard says the Johnsons were actively trying to get the 30-year-old into Cliffside Rehabilitation Center in Malibu when she died.

Meanwhile, Lennard says, Tila wasn’t helping the situation. “One would imagine [that if you had] just lost somebody you claimed to love, who had very serious drug and alcohol problems, you wouldn’t be ranting like this,” she said of Tila’s Twitter page.

That site shows a slew of erratic messages since Casey was found dead Monday – including allegations that the heiress’ family had abandoned her by the time of her death.

Not true, says Lennard. “[Tila] is absolutely out of her goddamn mind. I pray she goes and gets some help. Every single thing she wrote in her blog was untrue.”

In a final insult, Lennard says the now-notorious engagement ring that Tila flashed in a video she made of herself and Casey in early December is as fake as their relationship.

Sniffed Lennard: “It’s of no value.”

A catfight nearly broke out over Casey Johnson’s dogs Wednesday when celebrity friends of the doomed heiress tried to retrieve them from her “Wifey.”

Reality TV star Tila Tequila refused to open the door when Johnson’s pals Nicky Hilton and Bijou Phillips arrived – and bizarrely told reporters she feared the twosome was going to put the pooches down.

“They don’t care about the dogs. They are putting them to sleep to bury with Casey,” Tequila exclaimed – an allegation flatly denied by a family spokesman.

One of the pooches, an 18-year-old toy poodle named Zoe, “is very old and sick and has a lot of issues,” said Jesse Derris, a spokesman for Casey Johnson’s heartbroken dad, Jets owner Woody Johnson.

“The family plans to seek veterinary help for those issues,” he said, but is not planning to put the dog down.

Tequila called the cops when Hilton and Phillips showed up – even though a source familiar with the incident said “they had set this up with Tila’s assistant.”

As Hilton and Phillips were explaining why they were there, “Tila opened the door and ran outside,” the source said.

“I didn’t know who was pounding on my door,” Tequila explained, standing on her Studio City, Calif., porch in a purple tank top, gray jeans and Uggs. “It’s been quite hard because it’s all of them against me.

“I feel that everybody needs somebody to blame, and they want to blame me. I have to go clean up the house because they just messed everything up in my house.”

Besides Zoe and a second dog, a Yorkie, Casey Johnson’s friends also took a rack of her clothes, including several fur coats, along with packages of insulin she took for her diabetes.

Asked if there was any plan to bury the dogs with Johnson, Phillips replied, “No.” Then she loaded a red suitcase filled with her friend’s gear into a black Range Rover.

It was not clear if the eye-popping 17-carat engagement ring Johnson gave Tequila in an online video – while both were clad in bras and panties – was among the retrieved items.

Woody Johnson’s spokesman also hotly denied Tequila’s claims that she was to meet with members of the family.

“It’s not true,” said Derris.

Tequila, 28, announced she was meeting with the Johnsons earlier in the day on Twitter. “Meeting with my family and my Fiance’s Family,” she wrote.

While Johnson’s sisters, Jaime and Daisy, are in town to collect their big sister’s remains, meeting with Tequila is not on their agenda, a source close to the Johnsons told the Daily News.

“Casey’s family and friends would rather deal with the Devil,” the source said.

Tequila was not invited to the memorial Nicky Hilton hosted on Tuesday night. But old pals like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Alexandra von Furstenberg and Brandon Davis were there, the source said.

Johnson’s grieving father and her mother, Sale, stayed on the East Coast, the source said.

The 30-year-old heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune was found dead Monday. A short time later, Tequila confirmed the death of “my Wifey Casey Johnson” on Twitter. The initial autopsy showed no evidence of trauma, but the heiress had battled booze and drug addiction. Investigators are awaiting the results of toxicological tests done by the Los Angeles County coroner before they announce the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the LAPD shot down a report they want to question Tequila about Casey’s death.

“We’re not seeking Tila Tequila,” Detective John Shafia said.

It was not clear when Tequila last saw Casey, who lay dead in her bed for several days before she was found.

They had a spat after Christmas and there were conflicting reports on whether they saw each other on New Year’s Eve.

Johnson’s friends said her parents tried to get her into rehab, but the source close to the family insisted the heiress was done with her “recreational drug phase.”

“There were no illegal drugs at her house,” he said. “She had a refrigerator full of medication for her diabetes.”

Still, in an attempt to get Johnson straight, her parents tried tough love and cut off her money – and she was in deep debt when she died.

Casey Johnson’s body is expected to be flown back this week for burial after a private funeral limited to immediate family, Derris said.

Baby-powder heiress Casey Johnson has flown to New York with her “fiancée,” Tila Tequila, to try to reclaim her daughter, Ava, from the custody of her mother, Sale Johnson, and bring the toddler back to LA.

Casey adopted the girl from Kazakhstan two years ago over the objections of her aunt, Libet Johnson, who built an orphanage in Cambodia. But Sale took custody earlier this year out of concern for little Ava’s safety.

“Casey is intent on getting her daughter back,” an acquaintance from LA said. But friends are distancing themselves from the increasingly erratic heiress.

“When I went to her rented house on Mulholland Drive recently, it was like Grey Gardens,” our source said. “There are dirty dishes everywhere and rotting food. There is graffiti on the walls. The pool looks like a swamp.”

Johnson’s father, New York Jet owner Woody Johnson, and the rest of the family recently restricted Casey’s access to funds because she repeatedly has refused to get the help they say she needs. She’s been in rehab several times but has never finished the programs.

“She can’t pay her bills, so the electricity was cut off. She can’t put gas in her car,” said our source. “She’s been keeping her Porsche in the garage because she’s afraid it will be repossessed.”

Tila and Casey announced their engagement this month with a video they posted online of themselves in bed wearing only bras and panties.

As Casey smiles in an apparent stupor, Tequila rants: “Look at this ring. Its 18-carat because my baby is ballin’. We are going to make love tonight for our honeymoon . . . She adopted a baby, Ava, and I love children. We already have a family. We are going to buy a house together and, once we get situated, throw an engagement party.”

Here come the brides!

Tila Tequila claims she is getting married to Johnson & Johnson heiress Casey Johnson.

Donning black lingerie, the bisexual MTV reality star sat alongside her fiancée Wednesday morning as she announced the news to her fans on a USTREAM video.

“Are you ready for this big announcement that’s going to change our lives?” Tequila, 27, asked. “This is exclusive and going to be all over the news tomorrow, but because I love you guys so much, we are giving you the exclusive first tonight. My girlfriend has asked me to marry her!”

The busty brunette then flashed her engagement finger, which held a “17-carat diamond ring from my baby,” she said.

“It’s so fat you can’t even see it!” Tequila (whose real name is Tila Nguyen) boasted. “My baby takes care of me. Beat that, J.Lo! Beat that, Khloe and Lamar!

“Casey Johnson and Miss Tila Tequila are now officially engaged. Woo!” she added.

Before skeptics can scoff, Tequila insisted her new bling is “not fake” because “ my baby is a f—— baller. She’s a bagil-gazillionaire! She is the heiress of Johnson & Johnson.”

Acknowledging that they have “a lot of work to do” to plan their nuptials, Tequila also dished about their growing family.

“We already have a family,” Tequila said of Johnson, who adopted a baby girl from Kazakhstan in 2007. “I love children. She has a daughter named Ava. I have a dog named Onyx. The next thing we are going to do is buy a house together, and once we get situated, we’re going to throw an engagement party.”

Tequila’s happy news comes after her drama with her ex-boyfriend, San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman, who she claims allegedly choked and unlawfully restrained her at his home. San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis later dismissed her claims because of insufficient evidence.

So this explains Tila Tequila’s boundless energy for self-promotion.

The bisexual bunny demanded 20 cans of Red Bull on her table “at all times” when she performed the other night at HeadQuarters, the West 38th Street gentlemen’s club. “She stipulated that as each Red Bull was consumed, it should be replaced with another one immediately,” a spy reports.

“She also insisted that she not be photographed smoking outside.” The pampering paid off, and Tila stripped for an appreciative crowd.

Tila Tequila’s attorney on Tuesday called San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman’s explanation of an altercation with the reality star that led to his arrest “spin” and predicted it would be discredited.

Attorney Alan S. Gutman said in a statement that Merriman’s public comments that he was trying to protect Tequila, who he thought was drunk, amount to another attack on his client.

“Shawne Merriman and his advisors have decided that the best defense is a good offense, attacking Tila Tequila in the press with a lot of calculated spin to cover up his illegal and indefensible actions,” Gutman’s statement read.

However, society won’t tolerate a physical assaulting on a young woman who weighs 93 pounds by an All-Pro linebacker who weighs 270 pounds, he said.

Merriman was arrested early Sunday after Tequila accused him of choking and throwing her while she was at his suburban San Diego home. Tequila signed a citizen’s arrest warrant accusing Merriman of battery and false imprisonment. Both are felonies.

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known for “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” which ran for two seasons on MTV. The bisexual dating show featured men and women vying for Tequila’s affections. She has also modeled for Playboy and other men’s magazines.

Prosecutors will have to decide whether to press charges, and Merriman and his attorney, Todd Macaluso, have said they expect him to be vindicated. Macaluso did not immediately return an e-mail message seeking comment Tuesday night.

Merriman issued a statement Sunday denying wrongdoing and saying he was trying to keep Tequila from leaving his home because she appeared to be intoxicated.

“I in no way caused any harm to Ms. Nguyen, however, paramedics were called and she was examined but no injuries were reported,” Merriman’s statement read.

Merriman is one of the NFL’s hardest-hitting players and is nicknamed “Lights Out” for his savage hits.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection has been getting back into shape after having season-ending knee surgery following the 2008 opener.

“It is never justifiable to brutally assault, choke, strike and imprison a woman,” Gutman wrote in the statement. “Once the truth is fully revealed, Mr. Merriman’s fantastic story of how he was trying to keep Ms. Tequila safe will be completely discredited.”

The NFL linebacker busted for choking reality TV star Tila Tequila said he was only trying to protect her.

San Diego Chargers player Shawne Merriman — who was arrested for allegedly choking the curvy starlet and knocking her down when she tried to leave his southern California house — said Tequila was too drunk to drive.

“We would all do our best to help a friend if we considered their actions to be detrimental to their personal safety,” Merriman, 25, said in a statement, insisting he did nothing to harm Tequila, his girlfriend.

“At the time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could be provided.”

The three-time Pro Bowler added that he wants to clear “his name” and “put this behind me so I can continue to focus on a successful season for the San Diego Chargers,” which kicks off next Monday.

Merriman was arrested at his home north of San Diego early Sunday and charged with battery and false imprisonment after Tequila – who starred in the two-season MTV show “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila” – called cops about 3:45 a.m. Merriman was released seven hours later after posting $58,000 bail, according to reports.

At the time, Tequila had been partying at Merriman’s suburban Poway home with at least 14 other people and was “extremely inebriated,” according to his lawyer.

The duo had earlier been spotted at a swanky San Diego club where they partied in the penthouse until closing at 2 a.m., according to reports.

“There was absolutely no wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Merriman,” his lawyer, Todd Macaluso, told the Associated Press.

“He essentially was doing what was appropriate under the circumstances in trying to protect the safety of Miss Tequila. There were numerous eyewitnesses that will support his version of the events that transpired at his home.”

Tequila was taken to a hospital for treatment and released. Merriman insisted Tequila “was examined but no injuries were reported.”

Tequila’s attorney, Scott Leemon, said the starlet, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, would not be commenting on the incident.

Merriman, who missed nearly all of the last season because of a knee injury, was suspended for four games for testing positive for steroids in 2006.

Tequila has also modeled for Playboy and other men’s magazines. Her R-rated reality dating show featured men and women competing for her affections.

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested last night after allegedly roughing up his girlfriend, noted internet person Tila Tequlia. Way to start the season strong, buddy.

Merriman, who missed all but one game last season with knee problems, was arrested in front of his own home about 3:45 a.m. this morning after Tequila (sigh) accused him of choking her and restraining her when she tried to leave the house. She went to the hospital, he went to jail. Both have apparently been released.

The possibly roid-raged linebacker recently expressed admiration for Oregon’s LeGarrette Blount and his sucker punching ways, stating “I want to punch a bunch of guys but i would never risk getting suspended and fined i love my $.” Apparently, Merriman has not read the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, because the strictures against guy punching also include women. If you think drunk driving, shooting yourself in the leg, and dog murder are frowned upon, I’m sure Roger Goodell has been itching to take a very strong stand against domestic violence. Maybe Shawne is trying to see just how many games he can miss and still make the Pro Bowl.

Because Tequila and Merriman are both lunatics who are obsessed with Twitter, you can probably find more updates there in the near future.

Here’s a video of Merriman leaving jail:

Merriman, 25, was taken into custody and booked into the central jail at about 8:30 a.m. He was released shortly after 11 a.m. Caldwell said she didn’t know if he posted bail or was released on his own recognizance.

The linebacker’s lawyer talked briefly with reporters outside the San Diego County Jail downtown Sunday. He denied the allegations and claimed that Merriman and Nguyen were at a party at his Poway home with at least 14 other people.

“During the evening Ms. Tequila was extremely intoxicated, inebriated and Mr. Merriman did everything he could to assist her in arranging for transportation to leave his home. At no time did Mr. Merriman assault her; at no time did Mr. Merriman keep her against her will. His intentions were nothing but good,” Merriman’s attorney Todd Macaluso said.

Tequila requested an ambulance and was transported to Pomerado Hospital. She has since been released.

Caldwell said Sunday that deputies confirmed that Tequila had been drinking.

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known for “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” which ran for two seasons on MTV. The bisexual dating show featured men and women vying for Tequila’s affections. She has also modeled for Playboy and other men’s magazines.

Scott E. Leemon, an attorney for Tequila, said in a statement that neither she nor her representatives would comment publicly on the incident.

Stingaree management officials confirmed Sunday that Merriman and Tequila were a birthday celebration with friends in the Penthouse of the nightclub until 2 a.m. when the nightclub closed.

“They seemed in good spirits throughout the evening and were enjoying themselves. There was no outward indication of any problem between the two of them,” Stingaree spokesperson Lauren Clifford said.

The Chargers, picked by some as Super Bowl favorites, open the regular season a week from Monday night at Oakland. Players had been off since after Friday night’s exhibition finale against San Francisco. They are due back at practice on Monday.

“It’s disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shawne Merriman. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course,” General Manager of the San Diego Chargers A.J. Smith said in a statement released on Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers have faced a string of negative publicity after several arrests.

Chargers defensive tackle Jamal Williams was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on Feb. 1., but the San Diego City Attorney’s office decided to charge him with misdemeanor reckless driving after his blood-alcohol level showed 0.07 percent, under the state limit of 0.0

Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson was arrested for investigation of DUI on Jan. 6, five days before San Diego’s playoff loss at Pittsburgh.

In 2006, there were seven run-ins with the law by Chargers players, including linebacker Steve Foley’s shooting by an off-duty Coronado police officer who suspected him of drunken driving, and two other players who were arrested for investigation of DUI.
Besides the arrests, linebacker Shawne Merriman was suspended four games for testing positive for steroids in 2006, and linebacker Stephen Cooper was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the 2008 season after testing positive for a banned stimulant.

Merriman was the 12th overall pick out of the University of Maryland in the 2005 draft, and had 39 1/2 sacks in his first three seasons. The three-time Pro Bowl selection was getting back into shape after missing nearly all of last season following knee surgery.

It’s now up to the District Attorney’s office whether they will uphold the charges. If they do uphold the charges, Merriman is expected to be arraigned next week.

“He’s done absolutely nothing wrong; he looks forward to the football season. He’s ready to go and this is merely an incident that was unfortunate that should never had occurred and was a result, directly, of Ms. Tequila’s conduct and the way she conducted herself in Mr. Merriman’s home,” Macaluso said. “We are very confident this matter will be resolved without any charges being filed whatsoever.”
