Valerie is on our September cover, on newsstands now.  See below for some quotes from her in-book interview.

In-Book Q&A:
On the importance of her owning being fifty-one:
“I’ve been around so long I can’t lie about it. It’s an old cliché, but you really do get better as you age. I wish I had the body and the face of that twenty-year-old. I’m so glad I don’t have her brain.”

On why she thinks men cheat:
“Why do women cheat? I don’t know. It’s a flaw in character. I had that flaw, and all it does is make you feel like crap. I never, ever want to feel that feeling again. It destroyed the trust between me and my first husband [musician Eddie Van Halen].”

On marriage with Tom last January after being together for 6 years:
“The relationship is the same, but it feels different. Making a commitment with our preacher and all our family there just means more. Something digs down deeper into your heart.”

On whether a second marriage presents new issues:
“We have the old ghosts of our previous marriages that we have to work through. Certain words might trigger what he’s heard in the past.”

“HOT IN CLEVELAND” star VALERIE BERTINELLI makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” airing on Wednesday, March 9th. She shares the story of how her now-husband, Tim Vitale, proposed to her in Italy and how she really feels about being 50 years old.

How Valerie’s boyfriend proposed…
Ellen: How did he propose?
Valerie: It was our first trip ever to Italy and we’re both Italian. I don’t know why it was our first trip. I’m 50 and I’m finally going to Italy.
Ellen: Where were you there?
Valerie: We were in Florence. It was like the sunset, we had just had dinner and it was a crappy dinner which is really not okay in Italy…I went up to my room and was reading TIME magazine. I wanted to get through a bunch of TIME’s I brought with me on the trip. Real romantic, aren’t I? So I’m reading the magazine and he’s got this little glint in his eye and he’s lying in the bed next to me. I’m like, “Stop it. Leave me alone.” Because I’m trying to read. He’s like, “Really?” And I’m like “Really. I just want to read this magazine. It was a crappy dinner. We’re in Italy. It should’ve been an amazing dinner.” I was really pissed off. I just wanted to read my magazine. And then I just closed my eyes and he just puts this little box on my chest. It was from Tiffany’s. I said, “Why did you spend so much money? Why did you go to Tiffany’s? You should’ve gone someplace else with cheaper jewelry.” I don’t know why he married me. Laughs.

On getting older…
Ellen: How old are you now?
Valerie: I’ll be 51 in a month.
Ellen: How do you feel being 50?
Valerie: You know what? For me, it’s always just been a number. I swear to God, if I knew I would feel this good and my life would be this amazing at 50, I would’ve turned 50 a long time ago. I pinch myself that this is my life right now.

Actress Valerie Bertinelli celebrated the first day of 2011 by marrying fiance Tom Vitale at her Malibu, California home.

A big Southern California freeze and high winds gave way to a beautiful sunny day as the couple exchanged vows on Saturday.

Bertinelli’s ex-husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen and their son Wolfgang were at the wedding, according to reports.

The bride and groom have been dating since 2003. They got engaged in May.

Valerie Bertinelli plans to run the Boston Marathon to raise money for cancer research.

The actress says she recently shed 40 pounds. She says running the famed Boston race will give her a chance to test her endurance.

Bertinelli starred in the TV sitcom “One Day at a Time” three decades ago and, later, the drama “Touched by an Angel.” She plans to join more than 500 runners who hope to raise nearly $4.5 million for research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her personal trainer also plans to run.

The 114th Boston Marathon is set for April 19, four days shy of Bertinelli’s 50th birthday.

Valerie Bertinelli says despite her girl-next-door image, her marriage to Eddie Van Halen was hurt by infidelity and drug use – by her, too. “I wasn’t an angel, either. I cheated, too,” Bertinelli said on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” broadcast Monday. “He claims to this day that I cheated first, but I don’t know. I don’t know about the timing.”

Bertinelli, who starred in the long-running sitcom “One Day at a Time,” married Van Halen in 1981 when she was 20. She said she was “destroying my body,” trying to keep up with a rock-star lifestyle on the weekends and weeks off from taping her TV show.

“It got to a point where whenever I heard the birds chirp, I’d be like, `Oh, God, no.’ It took me years after stopping the cocaine before I was able to enjoy a sunrise and enjoy the sound of birds,” she said.

The couple separated in 2001. Their divorce became final in December. They have a son, Wolfgang, who’s now 16 and touring as bassist with the band Van Halen.

The actress, 47, said she has struggled with body-image issues since she was a child, but especially turned to food for comfort as her marriage dissolved.

Bertinelli is now a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig and said she’s lost 40 pounds. She has a new book, “Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time.”

Van Halen’s publicist said the musician had no comment on Bertinelli’s book or interviews to promote it.
