The Rev. Al Sharpton bumped into James Gandolfini in the elevator on his way to Def Jam/Island mogul L.A. Reid’s apartment the other night, and the two — who had never met before — had a quick chat.

The next day, when Sharpton arrived at his Harlem office, a three-pound salami was waiting with a nice card from the “God of Carnage” star.

The bombastic provocateur was said to be mulling how to reciprocate and had rejected the idea of sending Gandolfini some soul food from Sylvia’s as too obvious. Sharpton was leaning toward an album of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits.
