Travis McCoy, frontman of Gym Class Heroes, has paid the ultimate tribute to his music idols: While on the Warped Tour, which just wrapped Sunday in Carson, Calif., McCoy had portraits of Hall & Oats tattooed on the tops of his hands.

“I’ve been dying to get tattoos of Hall & Oats forever,” says the singer who finally decided on the placement of the tattoos after gazing at the cover of the group’s 1981 Private Eyes album. “I was like, ‘I’m doing it!’” says McCoy, 26, who was inked by the band’s on-tour tattoo artist Craig Beasley. “My hands were swollen and puffy for like two days.”

Yet another ultimate? Daryl Hall appears on the track “Live Forever (Fly With Me)” on Gym Class’s next album The Quilt. “He came to a show a few years ago after hearing we’d named our tour the ‘Daryl Hall for President Tour,’” beams McCoy. “I asked him to get down on the new record and he said, ’say no more.’ So my dream collaboration – done it!”

Though neither Hall nor John Oats has seen the tattoos yet, McCoy’s sure they’ll be into it. “It’ll be weird to say, ‘Hey dude I have a tattoo of your face on my hand,’” chuckles McCoy. “But everyone knows I’m a die hard fan!”

So what will his next ink job be? A tat in dedication to his lady-love Katy Perry perhaps? “No, not yet,” he says with a grin. “We’ll see.”
