Monday night, both “Living Lohan” and “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated” premiered on E! and, in our opinion, neither mom came off looking so good. At first, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe these women aren’t as bad as the press paints them and they’re doing a series to show everyone who they are as moms and professionals. Our cockeyed optimism was shattered just seconds into each show. It seems the tabloids weren’t that far off, and doing a reality show seems to be just another way these moms can get more attention for their bad behavior, possibly at the expense of their children.
In the wake of “Living Lohan” launching, ABC News asked momlogic.com’s family therapist, Dr. Shannon Fox, specifically about Dina and Lindsay’s relationship and what effect the glare of the camera has on an already potentially dysfunctional unit. “There’s a natural tendency to be competitive in a mother-daughter relationship. The mother used to be young and beautiful. And in this case, Dina’s still an attractive woman, but she’s not in her 20s anymore. So she’s struggling to compete with her daughters with how she looks, how sexy she is, how she can still party like a teenager.”
